I have never done it on a PSD, but from the looks of it, it shouldn't be any worse than any other. Nuts, bolts, two hoses and take care not to make a huge mess.
Yes do it your self and save some money. I did it and I was only 14 at the time. If you get your parts at auto zone also rent a pulley remover there to.
Strange...I was having issues turning the wheels yesterday so I assumed the pump was going out. I drove the truck all day and it never screwed up? What's the next possibility. If the pump goes would it go all at once? Confused PSD owner...
well with mine everytime i turned my wheel my pump would make a very high pitch noise and when i would hit my brake they would pulsate..hope that helps

Nick if your parents ever don't want you I'll adopt you!!! Changing the power steering pump getting your dad a serius radio. I can't get my stepson to bring the trash out!!! Your one of a kind my freind. You parent must be very proud of you.
I ended up buying my own puller after doing the one on my old Bronco once, the one on my wife's old Astro TWICE, and a buddy's Explorer. It's not too bad of a job. Just don't do what my buddy did while I wasn't watching -- he put the pulley on BACKWARDS. Try getting one off when the hub you're supposed to pull on is against the pump!!! The pulley was destroyed and we had to go to the dealer to get another one.
In his defense, it was getting dark and we were also swapping out his AC compressor & flushing the system so we were in a hurry. Didn't keep me from applying some good ribbing though...
