Back in 2002 a Guy from FTE asked me if I had some of the detent chrome.
I always clean up parts like this before I send them, as courtesy to people.
I didn't even have to ask him ...He saw the photo and offered me $250.00 USD for this set ...plus shipping by UPS.
About 6 weeks later,I received an envelope with another $100.00 USD Money Order from him.
It seems the after market is putting out some bad pieces and this guy couldn't believe his eyes what condition my set of OEM molding were in so he sent me more.
Yeah...I'm sure someone here will know more about it than I do and will hopefully correct me but I believe the chrome on these trucks are actually an anodized aluminum.
Your correct. You can't polish anodized aluminum. You need to strip the anodizing off then you can polish the aluminum to a chrome finish. Search for the thread here on how to take off the anodizing.
Ben, I just happened to look at Dennis Carpenter's website and it shows that a complete upper and lower racetrack molding set including clips and fasteners runs about $1180.00 (not including shipping). It is cheaper to buy the Kits rather than one piece separately.
Upper Kit (includes both sides): 550
Lower kit (includes both sides): 630

And price may have come down also. Not sure. I know the racetrack molding just recently came out again within the last year I think. But, either way, It's still pretty darn expensive and if I ever come across a nice piece of chrome, I'm getting it.
Was it hard for you to find the lower bed molding since you have the toolbox, Ben???? I see that DC shows it unavailable right now.
I have all the center trim. I believe, there is a bunch of it and it looks to be in really good shape. I never planned to put it on the truck it just came with it. But for some reason there is only one of the trim peaces that goes around the lower part of the truck. I need to get some pics of this stuff. So I can get rid of it.
