Well...lets see here. Tough choice on two of them. If I had to choose one for the street I would go with the 302. The 302 is very light is capable of pushing 500+ hp with the right mods. For the 4x4 scene....no doubt the 460 for the low end torque and over all hp potential.
I would go with the 351C in a car (i.e. Torino) as it will run circles around a 351W (the 351W still has a place don't get me wrong). I would go with the 390 or a 460 in an F-250 or F-350 for brute power and torque.
I would put a 351W in a late ('86-'93) Mustang for the most cubes that would easily fit and that is still easily converted to EFI
I'd go with the one you didn't list. I like it because it'll outlast all of the above, and usually gets better mileage. Just a bid of a dog without any mods...oh, and two less spark plugs to buy too.
All things considered I think the best "bang for your buck" would be from getting an older (70-72) 460 if you're putting it in a truck. Sure the 427/428 CJ motors are good but they are pricey and hard to find and you'd need to swap out the tranny too. If your truck already has a 351M (or 400) then the swap to a 460 is relatively painless, you can use the existing tranny and the older 460s with the higher C.R. are torque and hp monsters.
ive drivin them all but the 351c and the 289, i would have to say i like the 460 the best, for the all around torque, and hp,especially a nice warmed over 460 thats why i got two of them, i also have a 351,
I would choose the 351W.... Parts are cheep, power is good, and I have one in a '84 F-150 "LIMO" long-bed, extended-cab, that will beat most new chevies. I would put one in my 67 F-100, but I hapened to come across a 302 for FREE!
