In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
William in Atlanta
I compared my '72 w/P/S and auto trans, to my 66. They look identical under the hood, from the firewall out, except that the p/s/auto is 2 inches shorter. (of course, one is auto, as well!)
My 66 stick column just doesn't appear to have the necessary extra 2 inches, even with cutting and welding.
Repositioning the the column "up", that is, towards the rear of the truck isn't an option either. That action binds the shift linkages.
Thanks for the ideas, William, but it looks like a power steering modification will mean the following all at once:
1. P/S sector w/P/S pitman arm - don't have yet
2. P/S pump, brackets, pulleys and hoses - got 'em
3. C-6 trans, with linkage, kickdown, carburetor hookup, flexplate and converter (FE pattern) - not yet
4. Driveshaft for auto trans - not yet
5. Automatic trans with P/S steering column - not yet
That's why I am interested in buying a 73-78 F-100 wrecked, with an FE C-6, power steering and disk brakes. Might as well do it all at once!
By the way, I am going up to Greenville, SC in July. I'll survey 2 boneyards there. One has an excellent collection of 61-66 trucks. If I have the time, I'll try to get a list of what he has available, and post it here. I know you are looking for a good 66 cab, William; haven't forgotton that.
