Has anyone replaced the crank sensor on the 5.4 liter V8? If so, does the A/C compressor have to be removed? Is there a procedure I can printout for this swap? The Haynes manual doesn't say much other than the A/C compressor might have to be replaced. This is a 2000 Expedition.

Remove belt.
Remove bolts on A/C compressor, and let it drop down a bit.
Remove single bolt on crank sensor, and remove.
Reverse order to button it up. No need to remove any A/C lines, etc.

Thanks JL. That doesn't sound bad at all. Just glad I only have to move the A/C compressor out of the way rather than removing it which would require evacuating the system and then refilling it with R134. I'm doing this in hopes that it cures the random engine kills. Engine randomly shuts "OFF"(maybe once a week),but always immediately restarts. The owner says the dash lites and radio are still "ON" when this happens. The fuel pump, strainer and fuel filter have already been changed since the pressure at the schrader valve was 26lb. which is below the min., but it still shuts "OFF" from time to time.
If its intermittent, try cleaning the connector first. Mine had a couple of pounds of grime built up on it that once I cleaned it off the problem went away.
I would try that if it was my vehicle, but for under $20 I'm not going to chance a callback. I will clean the heck out of it with contact cleaner and compressed air though. Thanks for the suggestion.

having somewhat the same issue with my 00 expedition..was wondering if you had a code for the crank sensor? A mechanic suggested replacing the cranksensor, but I don't have a code for the cranksensor. So maybe if there's a pound of grim on it, that's why it's acting up, and I don't have a code?
