I have a 2001 F250 CC 4x4 with an auto tranny. I have read about the 01 trannies being different, if my memory serves me right. It was something about a diode. I did a search, but apperantly didn't find it. The truck had a Ford reman in it when I bought it. I was just wondering how I would be able to tell which I had. Thanks guys and gals
At the start of the 2001 model year Ford changed a one way sprag clutch to the mechanical diode one way clutch. This was only on the diesels, not the gas engine trucks. Production went back to the sprag clutch in March, 2001, because the mechanical diode has a very high failure rate.
Since you have a reman in your truck the mechanical diode was almost certainly replaced.

Mark does the transmission build go along with the truck build date or the engine? Or does it have a build date of it's own?
The trans does have its own build date located on the tag on the trans case (left side ,rear). 4th line down should show BD- #Letter##. This is the build date year/ month/ day. Mine was BD- 0K13. This meant November 13, 2000. My engine build date was October 13, 2000. Mine had the mechanical diode and was replaced when I rebuilt it. The diode itself had not failed, but the center support bearing did.

Reason: added more info

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check on this here in a little bit.
So if my transmission build date is BD-1C14, this means March 14, 2001? Which according to Mark, Ford did away with the diodes in March of 01, so my trans wouldn't have it. I hope I am correct.
You could be correct. I don't know the exact date in March, 2001, that the sprag clutch replaced the mechanical diode.
In 2001 the transmission build date was usually the same day as the truck build date! The transmission plant was going at over 100% capacity to keep up with 4R100s. The trans plant is 90 miles from KTP, and I heard from a very reliable source that transmission were still warm to the touch from their hot test when they were bolted to the engines at KTP! How's THAT for just in time delivery?
