Possible Tranny Problem

Ok, i got a 2004 4.6L Auto tranny, when accelerating or going up a hill the truck seems sometimes like the engine is stalling and then it picks back up again while it seems like its trying to shift. I dont have a tach, but the engine doesnt sound like its stalling, and i dont loose speed, and i dont get any other noise, it almost feels like the tranny slips and then catches, and if i floor it, it seems like the tranny really searches for a gear before it grabs one. Is this the normal delay in these trannys i have been reading about? I have an exended warranty with the truck but would like to avoid taking it back to the dealer for a normal situation since i had an bad experience last time.

It also seems to just be between 1st and 2nd and when the tranny downshifts when you give it pedal. Like when it shifts out of first it takes a couple seconds for it to find 2nd and sometimes is feels like after the delay before second it grabs it for a split second and then looses it again, and sometimes it wil do that 2 or three times before it gets what it wants, also doesnt seem to do it untill the truck is warmed up.

same symptom

My 2004 F-150 Screw with the 5.4L does the exact same thing. It only happens rarely though and other than this the truck runs great. I've got an extended warranty too so I'm gonna hold off on getting it looked at; I'm pretty sure its normal for this tranny

This happens to me at least once per 10 mile trip to or home from work, or just driving around, it hasnt really bothered me yet, but i have read about all the drive by wire situations with the tranny and if its fine than good, but it feels like a slip to me.

I've got an '05 with a 4.6L, and I haven't experienced what you're talking about ...yet. I do however get a "whine", that is reminescent of the early to mid '60's Chevy Turbo Glides. No problems though. Passes fine, accelerates well (for a V6 anyway), and hauls well, as well. I really can't say that I have any complaints about the tranny, then again, I "only" have 50K miles. So...

I had a whine in my truck. It got louder with acceleration, and did it from the time you dropped it into drive till the time you took it out. Took it to the dealership and they had to put a new torque converter in. Check it out, if you can here the whine only when you put it in a drive or reverse gear and it is gone when you put it in park or neutral it might be the TC. Just a thought.

You mean you have a 4.2 V6 or the 4.8 V8???
