Make sure ya let us know what the pro's charge. I have gotten quotes a few years ago to get just the rear wheel wells fixed on my 89 and it was alot. I dont recall offhand what it was but Im thinking it was around a grand for both.
They quoted me 4 grand on the whole truck, sorry, the truck aint worth that lol.
see i've been told a couple of really reasonable ##'s... the first guy said between 15 and 2000, the other guy said between 2 and 2500... none of them seen the truck which will make a difference, but i did decscribe it very well. i'd like to find someone who would do the bodywork for me and i would paint it but i don't know of anyone who would be willing for that...
For 2 grand, if its a decent job, thats a pretty good deal, if thats paint and bodywork. Hell the guy that quoted you that might have my truck in there for that price lol.
I got quoted about between 2500-3000 could be more of course just to replace the whole bed sides on mine then get it painted and the trim put back on really expensive
Umm Continental Autobody i dont know the address its near Auto clearing it was more of over the phone quote i asked how much it would cost to fix the rust on the 93
he recommended the whole bed side panels ( i was thinking of just doing the whole bed sides anyway) since they rot down there near the bumper and the wheel well so 600 for bed side panels (each) by the time you get paint materials labour all that stuff i said to him so probably between 2500-3000 he said around there it could be more or less but thats just the bed and the rust repair
i thought that was a decent price i found them in the phone book since they do rust repair and restoration work but there are tons of bodywork places but im not sure be nice to find a rust free bed and get it painted or something
If you ever do decide to fix the rust by replacing the panels do it yourself and then take it in to get painted. Replacing body panels is pretty straight forward and can be done by most people who can twist a wrench.
my only problem is the welding...or should i say, lack of welder... i'd like to think that i could buy one and have it as another tool, but the amount of times i actually will need one seem slim.
Me too no shop no space dont have a welder dont have a clue or i would and would be 10x cheaper unless someone like Fom or a fellow FTer helped me do it when i had time
i might be able to borrow one from the JD dealer if my FIL asks sweetly, but thats a slim chance... either i'll wait until one goes on sale, or get it done elsewhere.
For me a welder is a really handy thing to have kicking around. I dont have my mig out at my farm yet, but I could have used it tons of times.
I also really enjoy working with metal. When I build my shop, and IF I ever win the lottery, Im gonna fill my shop up with metal working tools and machines
