No, I was showing that we don't get most of our oil from the Gulf of Mexico, which is what was stated in the post....the "greedy damn Americans" post. Go back and read it again. On edit, read it below....

What he said...
LOL Arabs taking our money...HAHA....lol we only get 20 percent of our oil from the east.... get your facts straight man... we make most of our own oil from the gulf..... its all about greedy damn Americans...
I was refuting the part about most of our oil coming from the Gulf....not the part about oil coming from Arab countries.

What I said...

stats...from 2004 that showed we produced domestically about 4.85 MBPD of the approximately 20 MBPD of crude oil that we use daily. That's about 24%. The rest comes from imports. Not all from Arab countries but a pretty large amount
Understand now, folks?

There is a huge misconception as to where the oil we use in this country comes from. Most people think it comes mainly from the middle east, some feel it comes mainly from the Gulf of Mexico....I'd have guessed Mexico. I was surprised it was Canada.

What I do know is that until we can reduce our dependency on foreign oil, we'll be at the mercy of OPEC and waaay too much money is leaving our country because of it.

300+ horsepower daily-driver F150's aren't going to help any.

Why are you so surprised that it'd be Canada? We have the oil sands here in Alberta, one of the largest deposits in the world. Thing with the oil sands though is that its not profitable to dig when oil is below $30 bbl, now for the last few years the oil industry has been just crazy up here, I guess my living in the middle of oil country here let me know already what you are just finding out now. In my line of work, I do home renovations, 10 years ago what were were charging $20 000 for we are now charging $180 000+ without people even thinking twice about it!

^ All true. I live in canada and make my living in construction related trades as well. Its going nuts right now. As an oil resource, the tar sands are very inefficient (plenty ecology to worry about too) of but for now they are still profitable and provide north america with a safe and stable supply of fuel. Atlantic canada is starting to exploit offshore oil reserves and there are other provinces like Saskatchewan that also have some oil fields. The price of oil is the main strength in our dollar at the moment.

Because I just didn't realize it was Canada. Simple as that. Sometimes you learn new things. I would have guessed Mexico, or some desert country but I wouldn't have guessed Canada to be our number one source of imported oil.

I am just curious, dont take me wrong, but was Canada also the majority import even back when oil was much cheaper, like as I recall in '97 and '98 when I typically paid less than $1/ gallon for gas, just 10 years ago?

The key point was that it was "not profitable to dig when oil is below $30 bbl". Its not entirely that the prices are being jacked up like many think (well that might be the case for part of it) its that a lot of were they are going is more expensive to get. Its kind of like in the power industry, more expensive gas powerplants are brought on when the market prices are high, just because they are now profitable rather than actually costing more to make than they would be paid during normal demand. A lot of coal plants even additionally burn oil when the market prices spike, just to get an extra 1-5% more generation, despite the oil costing many many times more to produce power. Now in the power industry, the price follows supply and demand very closely, I cant really comment on the oil industry whether its truly as supply versus demand issue.

And I believe Ford is going to drop a bombshell when they release the #'s. I'm thinking 382 hp and 401.25 tq.

I still don't think whether you like boys or girls should matter in the '09 F-150 section. (but Smiggs, I do agree with you)
