So maybe you should shut up and quit complaining about gas prices.. buy a damn hybrid....
Ok...so your broke, but you still don't think having a high mpg truck is a good priority for ford? Think about what your saying, if ford could up mileage to 25 that wouldn't help you?

People who are dismissive over improvements in fuel conservation are just crying sour grapes because a newer, more fuel effecient vehicle is out of their reach.

so u guys are basically saying it would be stupid to have a powerful truck that gets good mpg.I dont see it happening within the next few years, but i can only imagine how pissed i would be to get 25 mpgs in a truck.

What do you mean? I dont think the new f-150's get any better mileage than the old ones do, at least none that i have seen.

And, im just being realistic that mileage isnt going to improve on trucks until you start getting rid of some of the weight, to much sound deadening, tons of extra electronics and other things that people want today.... i want those things to, im just saying that you cant have it all....

I just dont think 25 mpg is at all realistic in a fully loaded f-150 that has the capability to haul 10000 lbs... now if you lessened the payload and stripped the options i bet it could get much better millage, it would have to start with gears and weight drop...

The new 6spd tranny should improve mileage though....

My 08 gets the same mileage my 02 got. The 08 is just more comfortable, and everything works.

12 sec kinda slow for a Hemi cuda ain't it. My stock 88 5.0 LX Mustang with a 3.55 gear, a little exhaust work and a 100hp NOS kit runs 12.40's all day long with cold a/c and gets 19mpg. Engine is still stock @162K miles

Why are you trying to compare a car that will barely hold a suitecase in the trunk with a 9000lb dually?

This was a few years back in terms of tire technology, etc, so yes, it was quite slow by today's standards. But Mustangs back then were pretty doggy, including the nose-heavy ones with big blocks and rubber-band leaf springs.

Not trying to compare for any purpose other than suggesting that I might not be *that* impressed by a ride in his 15-second truck.... Loud engine noise and black smoke do not make for excitement for me. Trucks are designed to carry loads and IMO, are kind of the wrong place to start if you want a hotrod...especially with a 9000 lb truck. I absolutely love trucks, but love them because they're trucks, not because they're hotrods.

Excellent choice with the old 5-liter LX; I always liked the simplistic body style of that version; a bud had a GT that I drove for a while (while he borrowed my old GMC van because he needed a truck), and that was a really nicely evolved version of a musclecar, which I thought would be dead forever.

These days, I just enjoy driving twisty roads in my slow but perfectly balanced '91 1.8 liter BMW 318is, last year of the little E30 body and first year of the little twincam four. Driving a tight twisty road while listening to the little motor rev up to 6500 RPM is now my idea of fun, and it gets just about 30 mpg on a freeway run. I've owned it since 1994, and will never give that one up because it just makes so much sense as gas prices continue to climb.

I see, you didn't give a timeline on the Cuda, I was thinking more recent.

Today's muscle cars are much more "refined" I guess than the old ones though I sure miss my 69 RoadRunner that I had with a 440 6BBL and a 4-speed!!!
14mpg when driven normally even with a 3.91 gear. The car was an original 383 4-speed bench seat car with a/c. I never had the a/c hooked up and it already had the 440 in it when I got it. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...ars/694406.jpg

That Hemi Cuda is worth a mint today. What year was it?

Heres a thought. Why not make separate versions of the same vehicle or engine. One is designed for MPG the other for high end Hp. Back in the mid 90s, there was the 7.5L, for the high end, 351w for average use, and the 300 inline six for pure MPG and low speed stump pulling (The 5.0 exceeds at nothing in a truck). Seems to me that ford is trying to solve too many problems in one engine (jack of all trades, expert at nothing).

So far the only company I know of that is making engines purely for MPG is Volkswagen with their TDIs. They are going toe to toe with hybrids and winning. Why can't we have a truck with an optional MPG engine/package? That way instead of compromising power for average fuel economy, they folks who want Hp at all cost can have all the power they can handle. While the folks who want fuel economy can have that without sacrificing some economy for extra power that is never used.

'twas a '70, yellow with a Torqueflite, owned it in 1974, paid like $2400 for it, flipped it for $4000, but had a little fun in the meantime. I also had a MINT Hemi '68 Roadrunner, black on black, 4 speed, no p/s, no p/b, NO TACH (although I hung a Sun tach on the column quickly) 20k miles, that I bought for $1500 in 1975. Sold it a year later for like $3600 when the ex and I were buying our first house and had to cash in. They'd both be worth a mint. And I thought 3400-3600 lb cars were heavy back then...

I also had a couple $200 Stratocaster guitars in the late 60's that'd bring $30k each today....if only we knew. (I was playing bar bands in college too).

And two 2-seat 390 AMX's, an old Austin Healey 3000, etc. I was in college, buying and selling cars to play with and earn some bucks on the side (bought them from people as old cars, sold them as collectibles). I wrote my college thesis on the Rise and Fall of the Musclecar, when emissions and insurance had pretty much killed everything and I thought we'd never see those days again.

Nope, there all V8s now (not sure if the V10 is available in the F150). Wasn't really a fan of the V6 though, I still wish they would bring back the 4.9L.
