I think it is kind of funny you blaming "greedy Americans" for the high price of oil yet you brag about not caring about how much gas you use. Isn't that greed?
So, back on topic.....anyone been able to verify the HP numbers of the 2009?
the first link you posted shows exactly 19% coming from the middle east - iraq, kwait and saudi arabia. 5, 2 and 12% respectively. rest comes from other parts of the world.
When people use there truck to make a living....as a truck not a daily get me to work vehicle they do care about mileage. MPG should be a major concern. I truly hate filling up the truck when it costs $75 to do so. I use it as a truck when I need a truck but twice the MPG half the HP and the same Torque would get the job done just as easily. My 79 300 got over 20mpg, and I still towed 10K, it wasn't fast but I still got where I needed to go. I really think if ford or any other the other guys built a truck that could get 20-30MPG it would sell. The formula to do that is low HP high torque and lots of gears to get to speed. Why not build a truck like that for those of us who do care about the arabs taking our whole paycheck. I am not saying they can't still build a truck with 300-400hp for other people with their heads up their azzes, but for those of us that us a truck to make a living the mpg does make 1 hall of a difference.
if you're so sure of it, why didn't the rangers sell? today's rangers have as much power as your old i6, so should be able to do the same jobs. if you could do your job with half the power, why didn't you buy a ranger?

you don't have to be filthy rich. I don't think there's anyone out there that considers themselves poor and otherwise would consider themselves rich, if suddenly, their gas cost was cut into half or less. It's not like, when gas drops under $3 i go fill up for less than 75 bucks and go, alright, now i can afford that vacation to the carribbean, that I couldn't afford last week when gas was $3.29 and I had to stay at home eating hot dogs.

I choose to pay the extra money to drive my truck because I enjoy haveing a vehicle that i can do what ever with and never let me down.
So maybe you should shut up and quit complaining about gas prices.. buy a damn hybrid....
it seemed he was trying to argue w/ the guy that said we only get 20% of our oil from the middle east; while posting a link that proves we only get 19% from there? I dunno about you, but I think he failed.
what would happen if gas went to over $8.00 a gallon like it is in Germany? What would diesel cost here then? Around $11.00 to $12.00 a gallon? You cannot honestly tell me that these prices would not bring demand down. Hello horse dran wagons and wide spread famine. $192.00 to fill up a 20 gallon tank.....
I would move to germany; there I could get 105 octane for the same price of the ****ty 87 we get here, with much less EPA restrictions on the cars i buy. when i went to europe last year, I didn't hear anyone complaining about gas prices; even though, in the area I was in, they were from $6 on up according to my calculations..
because tug of war's prove everything. they are nothing but a contest of traction, not power. put a 4x4 ranger with a loaded down bed, against 2wd i6 with an open rear end, and i can guarantee you that ranger will wipe the floor w/ the mighty i6.
alot of it has to do with traction and weight.if you were to to the pos 4.0 ranger engine in a mid 90s f150,im willing to bet it would pry get 12 mpgs and get its *** dragged by an I6.racing would pry be a different story tho.
nobody here is doging the old I6 i had one and loved it, but i think all the new engines that ford offers are better and more efficiant.... i have heard some pretty good stories of people using the v6 to pull some heavy loads.... and they would be the first to say that it was no speed demon when doing it but neither was the I6... It was a very slow reving truck that pulled hard

Ya i saw that and wasnt going to say anything about it.... thanks for the backup...
idk about the v6.but the modulars are a more versatile engine than the I6,the I6 was only put in a truck for a reason.I think we could all agree that it would be nice to see an updated one tho.

As a political junky, I'm not going to get involved in a discussion on the two political parties, but there is plenty of blame to go around.
As for the ford ranger, I still see them selling fairly well, but ford makes more money selling Fseries trucks because they are bigger and more expencive (and loose value more quickly). Having said that, the ranger is obsolete by today's standards, the lack of a crewcab option in particular is a big drawback. Now we could maybe blame the EPA for the lack of a diesel engine, but there are ways to make a diesel run well and efficiently even with all the new regulations.
If ford sold this puppy in north america, they would probably kill off the dakota by the second month: Original Image
2.5L TD or 3.0L TD
5 speed close ratio transmission
7000lbs towing
30 MPG
Theres nothing wrong with the ranger, its ford has no interest in selling mid size fuel efficient vehicles.
That ranger is awesome, i would consider one of those for the wife.... damn thats nice...to bad with the new tier 4 diesel requirements in 2010 will snuff out most new diesel hp and eff..
