help with ram mounting for full hydro

i have been tinkering with the full hydro here lately and i wanted to get your opinions. Tell me if you think this will be strong enough as well as look good...

I have cut 2 mounts out of 1" cold rolled plate steel bar. on one end i have cut a concave indention to mount to the axle tube. on the other end i have cut out ~2" hole. through the hole is 1.75" x .250" wall DOM tubing. the tubing will slide through the hole in each axle mount. this will allow me to weld on both sides of the tube instead of some dinky butt-weld.

now this is the part i am most concerned about... b/c i dont have a lot of room on the drivers side i decided i would mount both axle mounts (made from the 1" plate) on the pass side of the diff. basically about 6" or so (i cant remember the length, that is a very rough guess at best) sticking past the mount that sits adjacent to the diff housing. then i will go back and add gussets b/t both axle mounts and the axle tube/ram mount tube (1.75 x .250 DOM).

you guys think i will have to worry about the mount, either side to side or top to bottom?

i got confused so i didn't read it all.......

well it depends on the mounts that come with it.....did you get psc or pos?

if you got the clamps that clamp to a tube, why dont you take a peice of tubing and bend it twice weld it to the axle and clamp the supplied clamps onto that?

or did you get the mounts that mount flat onto somthing?

a quick sketch of your idea would help me.....

I cant picture it fishy.

Most full hydro mounts Ive see have a truss system that ties into the center section and the ram is mounted to that. Youre wanting to use 1" plate to extend directly infront of the axle tube toward the tie rod? I dont see why that wouldnt work but again...Im having a hard time picturing the whole picture.

POS... clamp on style

i really dont have the room on the driver side. i mean i could prolly trim and grind and flatten the tube end but it would be a lot of work!

agreed... thats why i am thinking shoot the tube through the plate and weld on four sides opposed to just 2 (butt welds). then in the middle of the mounts, the DOM, and the axle tube will be an 'X' of 1" x 3/16" square tubing to reinforce it.

that drawing is terrible and NOTHING to scale, i wish i had pics of the mounts i trimmed out.

I see what youre saying now. The can you extend the red DOM down on each end so it meets the axle tube on the passenger side and the top of the center section on the driver side? Building like a halo?

see here, i have just over 1.5" with where i have my mounts placed. makes it super hard to get 1.75" OD tubing in between there, have enough room to weld, and then still have enough room to mount the C-clamps and bushings back in.

you mean so that i can weld a support from the top of the housing to the end of the tube?

i really dont like the idea of welding to cast, thats most of the reason i am in the quandry

very crude but I think it would work. People weld to cast all the time.
