ok, well you can, I just can't find the picture I have of it.
When they were welding up all the headers in my dads old factory he was setting up, they had a huge welder they brought in on a semi. was a good 6 feet tall, 12 feet long, least 4 or 5 deep, it was huge. Had like 14 outputs on it and god knows how many feet of welding lead with it.
ok one last question and i think i will be ready to start burning metal! would you guys tear the axle back down and remove the seals so as not to cause problems later? or you think i can leave it all assembled?
o yea, i need a good way to measure the temp of the heated metal before and after the welding, whats a good way to measure that? will one of those hand held infrared thermometers measure up to about 1000*?

Leave it......i had welded my brackets on with some helaciously hot/penetrating beads on my 4link brackets that are really close to my axle seals and they didn't harm them any.....although they did get warm, but i welded the entire bracket almost at one time....so there was alot of heat....

cant help ya there......i just got it hot, then burned them in......
if the infared gun will go that high, then use it. If not, you can get temp sticks from a good welding shop. The stick will melt at a specific temp. Should be real cheap.
My welding teacher at a vocational school I went to after regular highschool was an absolute nut case. Every day we had to show him what we did and get graded on our work. One day this kid (real moron) was holding this piece of 3/8 plate with what looked like strings of snot on it instead of welds and kept complaining "hurry up its hot." My teacher grabbed the metal with his bare hands and licked it. No chit!
he was one of those "Im 65 years old and Im not using the few marbles left rattling around in my head to worry about retards" kind of guy.
I've used both, and like them both. Best welder I ever used was a Miller, but at 10k+, I could use alot less welder. Really liked our Hobart beta mig though.
