My LEDs work just fine with the dimmer.

Dennis, is that a "digital" dash?

Hopefully sooner than later.

Is there a thread talking about this LED dash? I'm interested to find out more about it, how it will look and the ETA.

still wondering... if you switch over to these bulbs, will your gear indicator still glow green as it does in his 1st pic (glows green because of the plastic that you cannot take out)..... ??

It will glow a tinge of green because the Green translucent plastic on the bottom portion.

I presume you have never pulled that piece out.

Talking

The dimming feature with my led's doesn't work but doesn't bother me lol. The turn signal I actually did nothing to them except change to the blue led bulb and it's bright enough that that greenish piece doesn't have any affect on the blue. I tried the regular 194 blue bulbs for turn signals but they made them a funky blue/green but the led is alot brighter. As for the gear shift indicator that's going to be next. I just have to find get the 1445 blue led and find the time to replace it. I'll post the pics when I get around to it.

Do the LEDS use any more or less power than the standard bulbs?? Either way, I think I'll be getting some of those. I have a feeling that the digital dash from hipo will be awhile in the making.

I would guess if you get the Gear shift indicator plastic out, you could use some 320 Grit sandpaper and sand off the green if it is a thin green film on the bottom side of the plastic.

Yes, LED's use a heck of a lot less power than standard incadecent bulbs. As long as the LED's are set up properly your talking 10's of thousands of hours for MTBF's as opposed to the hundereds of hours for standard bumbs. Most of the single LED's use about a 1/2 watt or less of power.

It has been requested by Hipo parts..that we're going to need a couple people to do an install one of these prototype dashes in their trucks.
Bill says there won't be any cost involved to these people. He will iron out the details.

It will probably someone with a 74,75,76 as first.

Hipo had a computer crash just as they were about to launch so they have been scrambling to get back up to that point again .

Bill said:

If I get this kit ready for sale, do you have a few friends that would be willing to install it and test it? I don't want people that will juts take the kit and install it in 6 months. If I give away a kit, I need feedback in a week. I want to be sure the install instructions are accurate before we sell it to the public. I would need people with specific clusters and specific years for the testing.

I'm sure you'll have no shortage of people willing to test out the prototype, but you can put me on the volunteer list. I still have no clue what the dash looks like, but I'd be willing to do a test install on my truck and give quick/responsive feedback. I've got a 1978 F-150 2wd. Current dash cluster is all stock. Also note that I own and operate TheTechLounge | Hardware and Consumer Electronics - News, Reviews and Coverage where we test and review computers and electronics and give feedback to not only the consumer but the manfuacturer as well. I do have more experience with technology than our trucks, but I do have a good mindset for such a task.

I thought about the foil trick too, but went ahead without it first to see and they are plenty bright for me. The transluscent dome is really a huge filter, and just removing them makes a big improvement - then you can basically go any color you want. I chose to stay green, with incandescent, because of earlier experience on changing to blue led on my camaro (sorry) and, at least on it, it was way too dim (probably just bulb location in the camaro, because the above truck pics look good).
The metal bulb holder for the light/wiper was modified by sawing (dremeling, grinding, whatever you choose) the tip of it off so that nearly the whole dome of the bulb is exposed - huge improvement. I also replaced the lamp in the heater control with colored and it also brightened up some. Ashtray was changed to green by using one of my spare green filters from the turn signal indicator and gluing it over the hole in the ashtray mount. I really like the way it all turned out, especially since my cd player is sort of old school (by today's standards) and is all iluminated in green.
I'm game, however, for a '77 full instrument w/100 mph speedo test!!
