Trying like crazy to get my exhaust installed by myself (not as easy at it sounds apparently). My down pipe was awful close to the rear spring shackle on that side, so I pried the clamp back off and got my wife to tighten the clamp while I held it in a better spot. Now I have either very little or zero clearance between the down pipe and the round spot on the back of the head- will it be okay like this or is it time for round 3?
Chase, are you sure you have the top pipe lined up right, to the turbo. I had to work with mine a little bit but i got lucky i guess. I got an 03 and i didn't have to much of a problem. I had more of a problem keeping the pipes up while tightning.
mine is very close but i can see air by the head...it hasnt botherd yet..some have had to mark the spot and take a hammer and make a slight dent right there...

No. After attempt #1 the clearance between the upper rear shackle bolt and the DP was very close, so at the advice of the company who's kit I bought (Diamond Eye) I tried re-aligning the D/P. Rather than have my wife hold the pipe and me tighten the clamp, for round #2 I let her run the wrench and I held the pipe where I wanted it. I climbed up top and noticed how close it was to the head.
I just went out and with my super-accurate laser vision I estimate there is about 0.026" clearance between the D/P and head. Okay okay so I cheated a little- I ran a piece of paper through the gap and measured it with a mic... just as a self-check though. So there is a gap there, albeit very small. This is with a 4" D/P. Forge ahead or backtrack again? (I'm voting for forge ahead).
the only problem I had with mine, MBRP, was it was really close to the bolt on the tran crossmember, when I would start it up or turn it off, I would hear the pipe banging against the bolt head, so I massaged it some and put it back in. No problems since.
