I did consider asking in exhaust forum BUT looked like 90% gas engine questions etc. I did some search's and read as many as i could find about diesel aftermarket exhausts and still have a question, we are installing a Diamond Eye 4in cat n muffler elimination exhaust on my sons 2000 ford 350 heavy duty extended cab 7.3L power stroke, my question is how much clearance from firewall is do we need? i have read some needed to "modify" the firewall which i am ok with have saws-all & new blades i also read to not use the included clamps is there anything else we need to be aware of? sorry if i asked in wrong forum
I have no experience with modifying firewall for a DP. I installed a Magnaflow and not a Diamond Eye DP.
If u-bolt clamps came with the system they will certainy work but I used Walker band clamps instead of u-bolt clamps, except for the u-bolt with the hanger(rear most in the pic). For the actual connection I did use a band clamp. The u-blt hanger clamp is actually around the bad clamp. Just a matter of personal choice but the band calmps don't crush the connection and makes it easier to later adjust or separate the pipe connections if needed.
Those clamps are nice. I have a Banks 4'' turbo back I scored off CL awhile back and Ill admit it was a tight fit but it went in and bolted up like it should. What I did was made a heat shield where it was close to the fire wall and called it good almost 2 years and no issues
Thanks for the info the stock exhaust came out with no problems i was considering a heat shield of some sort, i was just nervous after reading some had to modify the firewall to create enough clearance, we just discovered they sent the wrong kit 2003-2006 so its going back so we have to wait to see how it looks and SOUNDS....
My 4" down pipe went in pretty easy just had to bend my tranny dipstick mount, but I am running into a problem with my tranny heat shield rubbing on the exhaust. I am going to have to get serious and really bend it I guess.
Sounds like a roll of the dice to see if we are lucky enough for everything to clear!! I will let you know how it goes, I cannot wait to hear it "breathing" ..... jwj
Received correct Diamond Eye exhaust yesterday (thur 11-3) it went together with zero fit or clearance issues!!! Took less than an hour and sounds GREAT!!!
