I have a 01 2wd Excursion with the V10 and 4r100 trans. It currently has 78,000 miles. All was normal until yesterday when after taking off from a stop the trans shifted 1-2 normally but at the 2-3 shift the truck acted as though the brakes were on when the trans went into 3rd. Reverse, first and second still act normal. Anyone have any suggestions where I should start looking?
Since my original post I got brave and pulled the trans out and I found that my trans still had the diode-style intermediate one way clutch in it and it had failed. So I updated it to the new style sprag type, cleaned and re-sealed everything, added a Trans-Go shift kit and it now works great.
countyman01,
Thanks for the info, I am having same exact problem. 01 Excursion, 7.3, 60k, 2WD. I have 2 left hands, any idea how much this would cost at a Ford dealer or private transmission shop?
Thx, H

I used the part numbers listed in TSB 01-13-5 which is viewable on the Recalls/TSB's page of this site. I purchased the parts from an independant transmisson parts supplier since their prices were lower than the local dealer and they had the stuff in stock.
