trans problem?
The other day i was driving i was driving down the road when suddenly my truck wouldn't shift out of first gear, then the truck died and the motor wont turn over either. Acts like it is locked up. Its an 01 with v10 and 4r100. Just seeing if anyone had any ideas before i tear it apart.

That doesn't sound transmission related to me. For that to happen the torque converter and transmission would have to fail together in such a way that's nearly impossible. Sounds to me like an engine problem.

The od off lift was blinking a few days ago, the trans cooler was blocked by mud, so i cleaned it out and it never blinked again. The trans fluid smells very burnt but i didnt notice any metal in it, and i have not tried to manually turn the engine yet.

When my 4r100 blew out in my '03 7.3, it wouldn't go past 3rd gear. I had it towed to Ford and paid for the diagnotic just to make sure it was was the trans. It was. They wanted $3100 for a rebuild. I went with BTS (brian's truck shop) for a custom built trans for about $4500 that is indestructible. Highly recommend.
