As you can probably tell from my last few post, I am messing with the gauge cluster and I need to replace the glass on the speedo / cluster. CAn anyone tell me the thickness of the original glass so I can get one cut? would plexiglass work or should I opt for real glass? Thanks.
Plexiglass will allow for you to drop it a time or two. But it does scratch really easliy. Having new glass cut wont be easy or cheap as thin as it is. I honestly believe it is less then 3/32, closer to 1/16th. Another route would be junkyard crawling for it. That is where I found one of mine in a 65 F-600 cab sitting on a dirt pile.
I just sold two clusters with glass to another FTE member. Maybe he would part with one.
I remember when mine broke... I was so bummed out. But, I cut a new one out of a plastic picture frame from the dollar store. Still looks good after about five years. Not cloudy or scratched at all.
If unable to locate from FTE sponsor Ford parts supplier, John's F100 has them $12.75 plus shipping, clear or smoked. They use to carry the round gasket. If decide to go this route, suggest calling them to confirm instock, very helpful staff but it can take couple days to couple months if back ordered.
