The glass in the vent window of my 53 F100 had not been inserted all the way into its frame, and so I had to remove the glass and reset it. I had setting tape from Mid Fifty which was labelled as being the correct tape for the vent window. I got the glass in easily with this tape, but it is loose; I can also easily pull the glass out of the frame. I do not know if the tape is the wrong thickness, or if is there something I didn't do to make a tight fit. It was my understanding that some of these tapes swell up a bit to secure the glass, but I've seen no evidence of this.
I have seen this tape in different thickneses. Maybe (if you have enough length) try doubling the tape up and see if that works?
I purchased some from a local glass installer for my 52. It was slightly thicker than what i probably needed and end up using a rubber mallet to get the glass in there nice and tight. I guess tight is better than loose.
I had the same stuff. It is 1/16" thick. Ended up having to double it. You can order different thicknesses on line. I also put a thin layer of black RTV over it once I adjusted the glass to close properly.
I noticed that I can not install the glass all the way in. I end up with a big gap at the division bar. When I pull the glass back where it fits against the division bar, the bottom curve is almost exposed.
I thought I had a bad piece of glass but, I have several stock factory pieces and they all fit the same. Might explain why the frame gets rusted down in the corner? This is also why I put some RTV on it. Should hold it, seal it and be easy to remove it if necessary.
I cant adjust the division bar forward enough to fix this either. The window would be loose in it tracks and there isn't enough adjustment to compensate anyway.
If I had to do it again I would make a cardboard pattern and have some glass cut that actually fit.
I was going to post pics of mine. Just haven't had the chance.

"Setting" tape is actually known as glass tape, available from any auto glass shop. So you don't have to buy it from Mid-Fifty's in AZ then pay to ship to VT
Good info scotty.
I wonder if drilling a small hole in the bottom front corner of the channel would help drain any moisture that could possibly get in there? Or might just cause more problems??
I know that setting tape is the original and 'correct' way of doing it but I prefer 3m 08641. Sometimes Woodcraft's spaceballs help with the positioning (Buy Space ***** at Woodcraft.com), depending on the application.
If anybody is going to use the adhesive to set their vent glass, I highly recommend doing it while the window and vent frame are installed in the truck.
You may be in for some serious work if the glass doesn't line up correctly AFTER the adhesive has dried.
