>im thinking of buying another ford truck off of a friend. im
>just wondering what is the fuel milage of a 400?
Need more info based on:
What vehicle is it in?
Is it a stock engine - if not, what has been done to it?
What transmission - stick or automatic?
What gear ratio rear axle?
Do you have a lead foot?
What speeds would you be driving?
...and other variables
Depending on the answers above, mileage could vary from 5 to 25 MPG. I had one in a Ranchero, with a C6 transmission, lead foot, rebuilt with 9.5:1, mild cam, headers, dual glass packs, carter 600, streetmaster intake - and I got 8 MPG city, 12 highway. Tuning would have improved it but it was totalled before I had the chance. Fun while it lasted!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Feb-02 AT 10:52 PM (EST)]im planning to buy a f250 stick 4x2 neg. trac rear end, 400 2 bbl carb, not a real led foot but sometimes do floor it, and i do a lot of city driving. should i buy this truck or not?
Personally, I've never seen a 351M or 400 in a truck get better than 10-11 mpg in city driving and maybe 12-13 on the highway. My truck (see sig below for stats) gets about 10 mpg city and 12 mpg highway.
These are the figures from the USEPA Fuel Economy Guide for 1978:
LTD II/Ranchero/Thunderbird/Cougar w/400: 13/17 city/highway (12/18 in CA)
LTD/Brougham/Lincoln Continental/Mark V w/ 400: 13/20 (11/18 in CA)
