This thread is to be about our "local" racetracks.
Post up, what kind of racetracks you have near you. Do you attend the races? Do you take part in the races? Do you assist a team or anything like that? Do you even want to attend?
There was one fairly close to me, called "Silver State Raceway" but it shut down. I was really disappointed because I love "down home" type racing. It is such great entertainment and pretty cheap too. Good family fun type of thing.
Now I'm going to have to plan ahead to see any live racing at all. Other tracks around here are well over an hour away.
We have 2 Thunderhill Raceway which is an oval dirt track (couldnt find a website) and US 43 Drag Raceway 1/8 mile drag strip. We also have an offroad park Wheelin' in the Country. US 43 was used in an episode of Trucks on Spike TV (project Haulin S10) and Wheeling in the Country was featured in an episode of Extreme 4x4 and is also where they do some of their testing.
i can(used to be able to) hit a 9 iron into Fonda Speedway.
lots of famous names have been here..Petty to name 1, Ken Schrader a few times, amoung many others. i can watch from my porch roof when someone is here to help me up. http://www.fondaspeedway.com/
I crew on the #31 ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck. Nick Gullatta drives. My avatar was taken at our win last year at Delaware Speedway in Delaware, Ontario.
We run twice this year at Flat Rock Speedway in Michigan, twice at Toledo Speedway, three tracks in Ontario, Canada, a couple in Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, and for the first time this year we'll be at Iowa Speedway. It's a neat series with a lot of really good racing.
plenty of local dirt for the racers around here to play on!! the track i go to all the time is only about a mile and a half away from my house. they race on sunday nights. they run IMCA late models, hobby stocks(bombers),and the 4 cylinder class which they call "hornets" for the younger drivers. I am there just about every sunday night starting in april going through september. I work 3rd shift, and my work week starts on sunday night. needless to say sunday is a loooooooooong day for me during racing season!! because I usually wake up early sunday morning and don't go to bed until I get off work monday morning. There also 3 other dirt tracks within an hour and a half of me that I go to when they have special occasions or big money races. Ken schreader comes here every year with his late model, that is always a good show!! Him and the wallaces used to race here on a regular basis before they went big time with NASCAR. The only asphalt track here is gateway down around st louis. Haven't been there yet,but have wanted to go see the nationwide series or craftsman truck series run. I am only limited by my budget and time. I could very easily go to 3 different tracks on a weekly basis if it weren't for the thing called work!!
Elko Speedway in Elko MN (3/8 asphalt track) Raceway Park in Shakopee MN(1/4 mile asphalt track). There was a asphalt track in the Minnesota State Fairgrounds but was shut down and now its used for burnout contests at the Car craft nationals but I dont know what else its used for. I think that one was a 3/8 mile. Otherwise dragstrips n dirt tracks are farther away from me But I do plan on going to a dirt track this summer n watchin'.
Ascot park in Gardena was my favorite - used to go watch the Sprint Cars on Saturday nights - it's been closed for probably 15 years. These are the two remaining tracks that are reasonably close. There is also the California Speedway.
http://slingersuperspeedway.com/ (WI) I race in the stock four cylinder class. Been doing it for 4 years now. It is one of the last local tracks by me. Closed the dirt track about 10 years ago. And the 1/3 mile asphalt closed last year. Guess it is good for our track as all those racers are coming to ours. The only problem is that our track now is not the attraction it use to be. Rumor as it that the track was sold and that it will still be open till 2009. If the stands are not filled up like they were, bye bye racing.

Ascot used to be my most regular and favorite track. Went there pretty often.
