sertomaspeedway.org is our local dirt track and only about 15 minutes away with two more within two hours. There's an asphalt track in Albuequerque and a drag strip over in Roswell. I got hooked baaaaad two seasons back. A buddy and his two boys and his two grandsons all race and another friend is fixin to start up. I help him ever once in a while in the pits when he is desperate for help. My son and I hope to start racing soon too.
If you go to the website, there's a picture of an orange bomber car. The driver was an German Air Force member who was stationed here. He went back to Germany the day after the last race last season but was a phenominal racer. It was comical to see that little car hauling apples around the track and winning race after race.
A lot of us have to wear safety glasses at work. There's something to be said about having to wear safety glasses as a fan at a race track. Mostly it's to keep the mud, dirt and debris out of our eyes, but man, ain't it fun?
the track i talked about earlier,my local track is hoping to start races march 30. I think that is very optimistic thinking. It was 10 degrees when I woke up saturday morning. it is going to have to warm up a bunch before the 30th!!
Well I hope it does. I love local, small track racing. The high dollar professional racing is great, but it's not really better than the local tracks and 'down-home' racing.
The drag strips I know of in Minnesota are BIR Brainerd International Raceway (which I am sure is known since they have had nationals up there many times) about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs north of me and Grove Creek over west of the Twin cities near the South dakota & North dakota borders. Theres Rockfalls drag strip in Rockfalls wisconsin too but never been there yet.
Don't forget Interstate Dragways in Sabin, MN. It is 15 minutes from my house.
