I've raced at Star Speedway in Epping NH and Hudson Speedway in Epping NH. They are both over 1.5 hours away from me. I've since quit racing, but still try to make it to one of the two tracks every weekend. They are both 1/4 mile paved ovals that race mostly "stock" type fendered cars along with some modifieds.

Drag strip on a semi-abandoned runway, plus they set up a road course there. I used to live less than a mile from it, but had to move a couple months back.
I'm out there every nice weekend during the summer. My buddy races a 88 Mustang in the local pro street class, he also races a 93 SHO in the PRO FWD class. I run my 86 F150 when they throw their midnight meyhem event, its simple green light racing, no staging and no timing. It fun to go beat up on the highschool kids with their rice burners.
This one was my old home track, I live about 120 miles away now so I'm not up there much. Me and some buddies were in the crowd there when Pinks was filming one of there first season shows. Had a lot fun up there when I was in high school.
Another local track is the Cedar county speedway. in Tipton Iowa, couldn't find a website for them. It's a quarter mile oval dirt track. We go up there maybe 4 or 5 times a summer to watch the sprint cars and the midgets.
yea i drive by cordova once a month or so, it is 2 hours from me. we also have a dragstrip, Byron dragway that is about 30 minutes away if you include the drive to the edge of town from my house. then we have the rockford speedway that is an asphalt oval with a really good draw, and some bigger races. including the world famous figure eight trailer races, figure eight bus races, and some other crazy crap. we have a dirt oval in freeport at the fairgrounds about 25 minutes away. we have a grass roots road course, blackhawk farms raceway, again about 25 minutes away we have a pretty serious go kart track, the big serious shifter karts, they are about 50 minutes away. and finally union grove dragway is about 1.75 hours away. so basically if you put a dot on the map on rockford il, you could completely circle it with colored pins showing tracks all the way around it at about a 75 mile radius. stretch that circle out to about 150 miles and you can add Road America to the list. Joliet motorsprts park with an oval, a dragstrip, and i believe a road course. and another racepark in the green bay wi. area the name escapes me right now. nothing is farther than a 3 hour drive.
wow thanks bruce i never really thought about it, but there is a wealth of great racing in my neighborhood. great thread. Dan

I watch the trailer races, figure eights and all the other stuff they do at that track on speed channel. good stuff!! the track I talked about earlier does some stuff like that a couple times a year, one labor day and memorial day. they call it "night of destruction" not quite as big as the rockford track, but still good entertainment none the less!!
They are oval track racers that look vaguely like an Indy car from 1960 but with more rollover protection. They are obviously weight biased to the left with a big V8 hanging out the left side. I think that they are the fastest circle track cars. I have seen them hitting 150 on the "straight" of a 3/8 mile track. Scary fast and fun to watch.
Local track here is Altamont. 10 minutes from the house. http://www.altamontracing.com/
Anybody remember the Rolling Stones & the Hell's Angels? Yep same Altamont...well, not exactly.
Me & the kids usually get out there for Saturday night racing a couple times a year. Cheap intertainment.
Nothing quite like the smell of racing fuel.
There's about 10 dirt ovals within 3 hours of me, about 3 asphalt ovals just a little bit further, and then there's Portland International Raceway (2-mile road course) just down the road. I stick mostly to the dirt stuff. This year we're fielding a late model in the FasTrak series in the northwest, so we travel to 4 or 5 different tracks. A team member of ours took his car down to vegas last week for the thursday/friday show on the dirt track there. I think we'll probably get down to California for a two-day show end of this month if we can get the car done in time.
Anyone have supermodifieds running on your local track? (Those things drive me crazy!!!)
My cousins and I have a old aluminum fendered Super late model asphalt car we are gona get running n race. No dirt cars yet though. Besides that I will be racing a 1984 Monte carlo with a 305 at Raceway Park up here until the super late gets done.
