Bad news, punk-kids broke into my shed at my camp and stole one of the 4-wheelers.
Good news, punk-kids came back for another load and my friendly neighbor busted them.
Neighbor tells punk-kids to return the stolen 4-wheeler and he won't call the sheriff. They returned it and friendly neighbor has been in contact with parents of punk-kids and the parents say they'll pay for the damage. They cut wiring harness to hot-wire it.
I'm heading up Thursday to visit with punk kids parents and to bring the 4-wheelers home and to validate nothing else is missing.
I have a question though. Do I honor my neighbors committment not to involve the authorities. It'd be a felony rap I'm sure, as the 4-wheelers are new and valuable. I'm not sure of punk-kids ages (minors or not).
The way I look at it, is my neighbor saved me at least $10k plus the danger factor when he confronted them. Of course, I'll talk to him when i get there and get his opinion, I'm just curious as to what some of ya'll think.
I would honor the neighbors decision to not involve the law as long as everything was returned and just as good as new, I would make sure the parents know what they did and let them handle the punishment, thats just the way I would do it.
