It is the same diesel as on road it is just dyed red. A lot of places do random checks. If they checked all of the drilling rigs in west texas 3/4 of the diesels would be fined.
It is easy to get on the rigs. I have a 30,000 gallon tank on my rig. The rig has 3 big Detroit diesel that burn between 1000 to 1500 gallons a day.
I have seen dye to turn the diesel blue. I think red and blue would make purple. I thought about getting some of it and adding it to the tank and puting it in a diesel additive bottle.
I don't drive back and forth to work anymore. I fly. So it has been several months since I ran red diesel. The way I saw it is that it wasn't costing me anything so if I got fined I would still be ahead. First offence out here is $1000.
I guess that I am stuck in the oil patch. Who would have thought that a high school drop out with a GED education would be pulling down over 6 digits. I never would have thought I would make that kind of money. I may have an operatunity to change jobs in the near future that will put me making some where around $250,000 a year. The schedual will just suck. I would be working 20 days on and only 10 days off. On the bright side I could retire while I am still young.
I noticed that a lot of the minions are going to school to be mechanical engineers.
What kind of jobs does that open up for you after you graduate?
Well, my dad is a Mechanical engineer, and he started his own business that I could get involved in or work for some other company.
Right now he's working for Spectrum Engineering in Baton Rouge as the lead engineer doing some side work with his business.
He wants me to hurry up and finish so we could start something together.

My dad's making a good bit of cash, but it's still only about half of what Robert just mentioned.
My uncle is also a Engineer( I want to say mechanical), and he just got on with my dad's company and he's makeing around 90-95K.
My dad likes the idea of still being able to boss around his little brother.
