Might be a silly question. Is there any way to tell visually, weather or not ARP head studs have been installed?
I ask because the prev. owner had done many things to this truck and head gaskets were replaced before I bought the truck...just hopeing the guy put studs in too.
You can see the nut and top of the stud just by looking around the perimeter of the valve cover on the lower side of the engine. I can see mine on the driver side head, just above the exhaust manifold about mid-engine. It looks like a nut threaded onto a bolt.
Leaving for Outback Steakhouse in a few minutes for an ice cold Fosters Lager on tap and a juicy steak. If nobody posts a pic by tomorrow morning, I'll do so.
Here is a pic of mine. If you look at the driver's side head under the degas bottle you should see this if you have studs. They have an allen head in the middle and a nut to fasten the head to the block.
I have a 2004-F250/6.0 Super duty and I am putting a EGR delete on and wanted to replace the head gaskets and install studs but I read a thread that the heads cannot be installed back on the engine if studs are installed unless the cab is raised for clearance, truth or myth.
2- remove tons of crap under the hood and still partial lift
the cab to get the the rear studs.
You're right, the first (lifting cab) is recommended - by manual , but you don't have to lift the cab for the second version. It's more like you have to jack up (just a tiny bit ) on the engine on the driver side....
