I have an F350 with 102k miles.Always had the tranny flushed at 30k to 35k intervels by the dealer. The last one was done 4k miles ago and the external filter was changed.
The problem: Yesterday the tranny guage pinned on hot.Pulled over checked the level and it's 2 quarts down but shifted fine. I filled with Mercon SP and after a few miles it's back to hot and the check engine light and the tow shift light is on. Could it be the internal filter is pluged ?Any ideas??
Were you towing when it overheated? Possibly a plugged up tranny cooler or a temperature sensor fault. Did it go straight from normal to pinned hot or did it hit the in-between stages first?

Wasn't towing and no snow plow. It seemed to get to hot quick
I don't think it's the temp sensor ,because I also lost to quarts of fluid .Which I'm not sure were it went because it looks dry under the tranny. Is it common for the cooler to plug?
There are not many places trans fluid can go. It can drip on the ground near the trans, it can leak out of a cooler line anywhere from the trans to the radiator to the aux cooler, or the trans cooler in the radiator can crack and leak ATF into the engine coolant.
When the truck is cold open the cooling system and see if there is oil. It will find it's way to the highest place, which is where you fill the coolant.
I had this happen a few years back on the way to work. On the way home, it started shifting erracticly. It ended up being a bad Trans Tenp Sensor. I was replaceced under warrenty. I is in the valve body. They pulled the trans and updated it at the same time. On the wa
