Computer won't recognize X3

When I went to load a new tune on my X3 the computer wouldn't pick up the X3.

I went to Device manager and it showed the device working properly but it doesn't show up as a drive on my computer and the SCT Liveload won't recognize it either.

I called a friend who knows a good deal about computers and he couldn't help me. Have any of you ever experienced this before and do you have any advice for me?

Do you have all the patches for the device? Firmware updates etc? Just on the off chance are you running vista? That has caused problems with compatibility with alot of things and I wouldn't be surprised if it affected SCT as well.

I believe I have the latest firmware, it was updated 1/28 I think. I'm still running XP. I don't understand it, I plugged my Dashdaq in last night and it worked fine.

It seems like it would be simple though. I have had problems like this before, the computer wouldn't pick up my digital camera, but the guy from SCT fixed when he updated my firmware.

I might have to call them tomorrow, not looking forward to that...

Firmware would be my first guess. It could be as simple as rebooting the computer and keep the SCT plugged in while it restarts.

I had to have my firmware updated less than a month ago because the tuner kept freezing while it was downloading the stock file. SCT seems like have some bugs they need to work out. Thanks for the help, I tried the rebooting thing earlier, didn't work.

I just went to SCTflash.com and updated cross checked their firmware to mine and they are the same, so maybe it is a problem with my computer. I tried the reboot method again but no luck.

Is there a different patch for the Live Load software? This is mindboggling, although I'm sure the answer is probably the simplest thing.

I don't understand this. I have loaded three tunes on it before so it should work. I unplgged my printer which works and plugged the X3 into that and still nothing. SCT sucks, I have had so many problems with this thing it's ridiculous.

I just called SCT and he had never seen my problem before. He thinks it is a problem with the file.

The tune file or the live load program file? I find it a little hard to believe that a tune file would prevent your computer from "seeing" your device, now if your were trying to get it to load your device and it was getting hinky then maybe the tune did have something to do with it. As a last ditch effort if you hadn't already(I don't remember you saying rather or not you did it), but you could try to remove the liveload and then just either reinstall the cd(if you got that with your xcal) or just download the latest version from the website(might be the best anyway if it's been updated from your originally cd version). See if that works.

It was the tune itself. The guy from SCT tried to load one of my previous files and it seemed to work. I guess I just need to get another file and try it. Thanks for all the help guys.

Just never know I guess. I just don't know what it could have been about the tune that would have prevented your computer from seeing the xCal, but hey, I'm glad that it looks like the problem is being taken care of.

I would try un-installing it in Device Manager and then re-boot computer. Plug in the SCT and the computer should re-load the software. Hope this helps.
