Several times recently I've had the sync 3 not recognize that my Iphone was plugged in. Has happened while using the Audible app. I worked fine until I stopped and shut down the engine. Upon restart Carplay does not start stating that "the device needs to be connected" which it is. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting the device with no change. Thought that it may be caused by having the device plugged in while was being started so I tired unplugging the phone before shutting down and thought that was the secret until it wasn't. Next restart the phone is recognized. I've tried both USB slots, moving he wire to see if there is a bad spot, and it is an Apple wire not a 3rd party cheapo.
And to confuse issues, sometimes, very rarely, I can use the Audible app through the bluetooth connection but for the most part the apps are not usable other than phone / sms.
Any thoughts or TSB's out regarding this?
Not that I know of. I have both USBs plugged into a iPod for music and the phone. There are times where the connection doesn't come up and there are times where they are fine. On longer trips, it's always connected, short ones, sometimes one or the other doesn't. When in doubt a full reset might be useful. I have not done mine yet, but it's an idea.
This might depend on the version of phone and software. I only have a 5s. When I get upgraded it might be different. I don't know that for sure. But with it plugged in, I can receive and send texts with blue tooth. Pretty nice for long trips, all hands free. Phone quality driving for sound is also very good. Atleast that's been my experience so far.
Trying a new cable would be the easiest
Then make sure sync is up to date
Followed by a full reset of your phone
If non of that fixes it it could be your phone or truck
To my understanding the update feature of the truck really only updates sync.
This happens to me occasionally. Maybe once every other week. If you do a soft reset it will fix the issue. Press the power and seek up buttons at the same time and hold for a few seconds. This is kind of a reboot and you won't lose any settings or presets. It's an annoyance and hope it gets fixed with an update at some point.
If dealing with cords then, one thing to consider is be sure it's an OEM Apple cord. There is a plethora of aftermarket (i.e. Chinese) available. I have had several bad knockoff cords.
