Bought my 7.3 on Friday will be towing regular and everything is stock(motor) right now. was looking at gauges and at 3-400 bucks figure for a few hundred more I could get an edge tuner that has "gauge" readouts and is a tuner for about $900.
wouldnt it make more sense to just pony up for the tuner with gauge option?
that is what I am looking at. am I wrong. not sure I want to spend the extra dough but I def want some detailed info while towing. just not sure of how far to go with it.
also is an intake and exhaust needed to run the tuner?
or is it that most people do that first then get the tuners?
Sorry for the ignoramous in me, but I just started smoking last Friday
Check my sig for what to do. Check the posts from the last two weeks on what the guys here think about the Att Monitor, Quadzilla, Etc. (They will say it works, but an analog is ALWAYS better) ESPECIALLY for boost ESPECIALLY MORE if running an OBA. (like it won't work...this is why OBA's are also called BOOST FOOLERS...you know...fooling the computer into seeing lower boost so it doesn't defuel)
As long as youre not going to pull a trailer, get the DP TUNER and don't worry about gauges and EGTs. It's very hard to drive civil and get EGTs in the danger zone unloaded, even in the extreme program. It just can't happen without a big load. But, that doesnt mean take them off of the list. You still need gauges.
I agree with Kris, and voted to get the tuner first. The thing is, once you get the tuner and start playing with it, you will be hooked by major PMS and then you will forget about those silly bicycles and sleds that you are spending mod money on....

And that is why I said you might as well do it in the right order. I have a tuner and I THOUGHT I had self control. Now I look for a chance to roll smoke and ruin my already bad BFG's.
Let the begin!
BTW - You WILL NOT stop at intake, exhaust, and tuner! All of a sudden you find FTE and you get a better tuner, but need gauges. Then they say you need a vb. By then (they say) you will have surge so you need a WW. This is after you already said what the heck to the hundred dolla or less mods that are just fun weekend whims. The best and cheapest was making my fogs stay on w the high beams. Way better than doing the Brite Box at least cost wise! Two butt connectors and a six inch wire!!! My first mod

Well, I tow. In fact, I'll the throwing a ton of hay in the back tomorrow, twice. DEFINITELY don't want to crash my motor, I don't have money to throw away on a rebuild!
I am in the same boat as you. I bought a used Edge Juice with Attitude. I haven't had the time to hook it up and it has been fairly cold here so.... Long story short, I am going to go in a different direction - exhaust, gauges, 6637 filter now and bigger turbo and injectors this summer as they guy who is going to work on my truck will be selling me his old stuff then. If you are interested, I'll sell you the Edge set up for what I have in it It take about 30 minutes to hook everything up minus the thermocouple. I am not saying it is as good as the DP, but cheaper and much easier to install. That's why I bought it and I bet if I had already installed it, I would be happy. I like driving my stock truck now so any improvement would just make it all the better.
Let me now if you or anyone on FTE has any interest.
