SUPERCHIP?

Well, to start off I know all of you are looking at the title of this thread and saying NO, DP Tuner!

But I dont want the DP Tuner I want a Superchips tuner because we have multiple 7.3 diesels in the family and I can switch it from truck to truck. Just curious to see what you guys have or if there is a certain cuperchip that I should get over another one and all that good stuff. Also what prices should I be looking out for.

I dont have gauges. I have a K&N Cold air intake and 4inch Banks Exhaust. I dont plan on beating the truck since I never do now and Ill probably leave it on the tow or economy tune 95% of the time just to make up for some extra power I lost with the 35s. My buddy has a DP Tuner and beats the **** out of i and has been for months with no Gauges or anything so HONESTLY do I really need them for what ill be doing?

thanks

I have a SuperChip tuner (5 years). It will improve your mileage/power/shifts over stock. I have been very happy with it. I will look at the model tonight and let you know what it is tomorrow. No... it is not a DP Tuner.... but you can still fry your transmission with the SC (But my wife did let me get a BTS ) ( we took a lot of Looong trips, driving over 70mph and burned up the od)

Theres Flashpaq or Cortex, I think im leaning more towards the cortex for about 50 dollars more the 2 year powertrain warranty is worth it haha. Are you hppy with it though? and you do have gauges?

I am very very happy with it. I keep it in high Porformance all of the time, unless we are pulling our 30 ft camper and then I put it in pull mode. Don't even know the camper is back there. Also, you are able to read your codes with the SC, if you do not have a code reader. I do not have gauges. When I blew out my transmission (I killed it by driving to fast for too long, my bad) and when Brian at BTS was rebuilding my transmission, I asked him about putting in Gauges for the tranny and he said it would be fine with no gauges because I put in a 6.0 trans cooler.

Why not go with a DP-Tuner X3 Powerflash?

I had a Superchips tuner but ran into problems with it. I sent it in a few times and they "claimed" to fix it, but I ended up with the same problems. I would actually have less power in tow mode, than in stock. They claimed issues with the truck, but when returned to stock I had no issues. Got a DP-Tuner and no issues from then on.

Call Jody up and see if that can be used on multiple rigs. My guess as long as they are all close to the same, you should be good to go! Or see if he can load tunes for each vehicle on it.

I have the Superchips 1705 programmer. I don't abuse my van. I get up to 18mpg empty and about 12 mpg towing the boat in Baja, with Baja fuel. I would not use any tuning mod without the least the triple gauge set. With a tuner you can get the exhaust so so fast that damage to the engine is inevitable. Do your self a big favor and get the gauges first!
Clay can set you up!

There is not a single truck out there immune to "frying" a transmission, even with factory programming on the PCM.

To say that the Superchips programmer fried your transmission is pretty ...well....ignorant.

The Superchips 1705 is a great programmer with good power gains without getting too carried away in the firm-shift department like the Edge Evolution.

You can usually find used 1705 programmers for <$150 and they work really well.

I have the SC 1705, don't use it since I got the DP tuner, but kept it for a code reader, but now I have AE and don't use it for that either. It is better than stock, but nothing like a custom tune. You could always just send the pcms to Jody and have him flash them with the tune you want. Wouldn't be that bad expensive. Might even consider letting my SC go if you want to go that route.

I have the a superchips flashpaq, I don't have gauges, but don't run it real hard. I run my truck in mileage saver tune and am getting 18.6 mpgs right now. Pull a 30 ft, 8000 pound camper in tow mode and get between 13 and 15 mpgs depending on grade and speed. You can monitor turbo boost on the superchip as well as use it for code reading, but its the transmission temp as well as the exhaust temps that really matter. Ultimately, Its your call, I'm saving up for gauges and dp tuner right now is why I haven't upgraded. But if you never plan on upgrading or modding your truck too extensively in the future then a superchip would be fine. You can upgrade the tuner online too, I do it every month and a half. Each month seems a little different. I've never seen these kinds of mpgs. Was getting a solid 13 before I put the tuner and 6637 air filter on. Good luck to you either way.

Nite and day like the guys mentioned between custom and off the shelfs but my SC 1705 tuner did what I expected of it. It seemed like it took forever in stock for the tranny to shift through the gears and towing was eating fuel like water going down to Va.Went down again with the SC, Slight more power but the faster and firm shifting stratagies was what I was looking for, and it worked for me. O, also ran it with no gauges, big mistake but didn't know about FTE then, great resources here.

Im not looking to make my truck a drag truck I just want a little better erformance, And I noticed the DP tuners on two of my budys trucks make the check engine light come on. Im not really a big fan of that and the Code reader is a big plus with the superchip

The superchips will make your check engine light come on too. Your hpop can't keep up with the trucks tunes as compared to stock at excessive throttle, any tuner will do that. It won't hurt it. And normally it will only do it when your running the truck hard. The superchip will clear the light it as soon as you want to, but the light will go out after five to ten minutes of normal driving because the hpop's demands are being met.

Oh, well when I tromp on my truck no matter the mode, except for stock the CEL light will come on. It brings up a code and the guys on here said its normal for a tuner to do that. I don't know though, either way it can be cleared quickly or will just go away altogether after a few minutes. No biggy.

I have been running a Superchips FlashPaq 1805 for a couple of years.

I am going to have to give it up for a DP Tuner. The tow tune shifts the OEM HD transmission to hard when I am pulling my camper.

I got a 15% increase in fuel mileage with the Fuel Saver (XS) tune. The code reader is pretty handy also.

It is a good product, but if I go with Stage 1 injectors, I am going to have to go with a custom tuner anyway.
