its a piece of junk it cost me 400 something and i could fell mybe a 5% increce in pressure. i bought my dp tuner for 425 and it has 100% better shifting and a tuner.Chris
Noted, but... is it going to hurt anything leaving it plugged in until sometime down the road? I was going to think about a BTS valve body down the road some time- would the ESE be a supplement to a valve body, or just an option without changing the valve body out?
It isn't going to hurt anything but you will need to take it out when you do a valve body or when you get a custom chip...
I had one installed in my truck... I didn't even know it was there untill I found it under there.... but the trans held together for 100k until I switched it out for a BTS..
I found it while poking around before I bought the truck. The trans seems to shift nice without any real weirdness, so maybe it's doing it's job. I wouldn't spend the money on it, but since it's there I guess I'll leave it until I go another direction with a valve body or other trans upgrade.
The 99 I just picked up has one of these installed and I really don't know much about them. Wondering if anyone has any input on it, good or bad.
It could disconnected, there is a loop-back for them, If looks like they're still hooked up but the loop-back disables it. It's rather small plugs into the end of one of the wires while still being hooked to the tranny. I have the loop-back in place on my truck because to repin the factory wire harness that plugs into the top of the tranny is a PITA. I should add the repinning isn't the problem it's getting to the wire harness. Don't try and remove it from the truck and hook the factory wire harness back up to the top of the tranny, because I believe your pin out has been changed and it would have to be changed back to factory specs. Someone had a diagram the showed the pin out configuration, I'll search for it.
I got a Trans Command for my '91 460 and liked it. Don't know any of the tech specs but it firmed up the shifting nicely without any jerks or bangs. Before that pulling a 15K fiver it was real loose!
As quoted from the manual "The Banks Transcommand increases clutch pressure to reduce slip-time thereby providing a positive shift which extends the life of the transmission. The amount of Transcommand effect is dependent upon throttle position, engine RPM and mile per hour. The Transcommand, in conjunction with the Ford computer, is fully automatic in sensing load conditions. The more load sensed, the more the Transcommand will increase the line pressure on the clutches."
Thanks for posting the link to the ESE -- there's some really good info in there!! Basically, that kit ignores what the PCM is telling it and goes about its business based on the mechanical changes in the system. Not a bad way to go. UNLESS you put the BTS VB or good shift kit in and tell Jody what you have going on so he can address it in his software. You DO have a DP, right??
If you read the article on the ESE website, you'll see that there is some kind of issue in programming that causes the tranny to lose line pressure. I wish they would've went into more detail there, but considering Jody's SW (and some others, I'm sure) address this, it's no longer an issue. Combine that with the kit/VB and you're in a much better position, IMHO.
It looks to me that there are a couple options out there to help your tranny out -- just do one of them!!

There site is very misleeding is is a waste of money. You can get a dp tuner with 5 settings and a whole lot better shift then what you can buy the trans command for.
Well.... All I got to say is that if you get one for real cheap or someone gives it to you and you don't have a custom chip then the transcommand can help...
I would never of paid full price for it... the guy that had my truck before me did... But it is gone now... well atcually it is sitting in the bottom of my tool box... My tranny made it through 100k of crap with 37's... so I can't say that it didn't help...

I already have one for this moment in time. It will be gone after the new tranny is installed--BTS or JW. Then yes, I will remove my Edge items and install a DP-tuner. Just need to get all this past my wife and some $$$. Big Oil, Injectors, F.A.S.S., and the Turbo will all be in line. Racing season already started. I will be patient and wait until next year to go. Great things come to those who wait the longest. Forged rods some day too.
