tj, i think you are a little high on the tranny, if i recall the pan holds 7 qts and you lose another quart with a filter swap, if you drain the torque converter too then i think you get up to 12 qts drained.
When I drop the pan and drain the TC with a 4wd pan mine takes 15-16 quarts to refill. Don't know what to tell you. Other than when he goes to the store and buys fluid he will have enough to get the job done.
sorry, i just re-read your first post, i missed the drained tc part......lol i thought you said that the pan and filter alone was that much, makes my post look a bit silly
i guess that also falls into the 14-15 qt oil pans...... i just changed my oil yesterday and put 14 on the nose in and checked to see what my stick reads and it is in the cross hatches but adding one additional quart brought it up to dead on the full line. i guess all trucks are a little different

Yep. AS long as it full that all that matter! Worked at the shop on Thursday and drove a PSD on test drive. Started cutting out on the test drive. Got back pulled the dipstick first thing. only touching about an 1/8 inch of the end of the dipstick! Not good!
regular green with SCA additive or I usually switch over to the Ford Gold but some don't recommend it. Actually I use the Zerex G-05. More expensive but I like it.
and i haev had the same thing happen with the 5 qts low part tim, but to add to that, i have had trucks would run like crap even with oil on the stick, just 4 qts low, but then i have had trucks that only had 5 qts in the pan and ran the same way
I don't know how low this one was as it was due for an oil change. But I did have one a few years ago that was 9 quarts low. Still ran after the oil heated up some. SOME PEOPLE!!
Yep pretty crazy!! The first was a contractor and second is the guy I used to snowplow for. he is pretty mechanically senseless but atleast he is smart enough to have a fleet of PSD plow trucks! Now if he would pull the dipstick every now and then!
