He said the company had a strategic choice to make: "We could exit. We could partner. We could acquire."
This is an interesting comment by the Cat exec.,particularly the last part. Who is left to acquire? All 4 heavy truck OEMs are/will be vertically integrated by 2010.

Considering medium trucks, if Ford and International are totally parting ways, isn't the production of F650-F750s in question?

Yes it is. Back in November, International notified Ford that they will end the joint venture that builds the 650, 750, and LCF ('Blue Diamond') in September 2009. There has been no word on what Ford will do if this happens.
most cat engines use lower rpm. you would need about a 10 speed eaton to make it hit useful speeds. most people would not buy it because of constant gear hunting. i would buy one just for the emblems. way too many changes would have to be done around the entire truck. and as for the dt466. the new ones are crap. complete crap and nothing but crap.....

If this were true, then Cummins, Detroit, and Volvo would be in trouble also. All modern big-bore diesels use this same philosophy, gear fast/run slow. Eaton's 10 spd is the most popular transmission on the road today.
I'll take a newer dt466 or 530 over any other power platform currently available right now!
The cummins is giving constant shop time and electronics trouble, the isuzu/gm duracrap is almost worked out but the fuel milage is horrendous, the cat c-7 is a turd for power and speed no matter how you drive it or gear it and the fuel mileage is no better then the duramax, The mbe light engine can't keep the fuel and the coolant out of the oil pan long enough to get a money return on the better fuel mileage it offers, so that leaves you with the dt's and the UD's......I'll take the dt's due to the trucks- In a cabover your the first thing to the accident when one happens!!!
I'll keep with international and their occasional injector failure and turbo problems, and after a half hour on the laptop....outrun every other truck on the road and still get decent fuel mileage.
The real question is when will volvo step into the medium duty market and give the public a great med duty work horse with a great power plant!?!?
you guy were talking about a dt 466 in a pick up it has been done. A local guy did it in a 96 f350 it wins the truck pulls at the county fair every year
i'm not sure why anyone would ever want a 3306 i ran them in several different semis they were underpowered sucked up just as much fuel as the bigger more powerful 3406. I talked with 1 fleet owner who had run the3306 in motorgraders and loved it, so they put them into their trucks when they got the option he said that was about the worst mistake him and his bros. ever made they just didn't stand up at all
