The Truth about 5-20 Motorcraft OIL

From <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=550 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=bodytext>Designed, engineered and recommended by Ford Motor Company

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=bodytext>Motorcraft® 5W-20 motor oil dramatically outperforms and outprotects conventional motor oils. It meets the stringent WSS-M2C153-H Ford Motor Company specification to give the balance of engine durability and performance and to maximize fuel economy while reducing emissions. Due to its low volatility, low oil consumption is maintained. What this means for the environment is a motor oil that pollutes less. </TD></TR><TR><TD class=bodytext>

Why you should stock up

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=bodytext>5W-20 is the wave of the future. Most Ford Motor Company 2001 model year engines have been designed to use this new oil and Ford Motor Company now recommends it for many older vehicles as well. Since not all automakers recommend 5W-20 and not all independent oil change shops stock it, now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity. With the advantages it brings, your customers are asking for it – which means they’ll come to your business. It also helps assure them of warranty compliance and may lead to longer engine life. Ford Motor Company is a leader in cleaner and more efficient cars and trucks. Your business should be a leader in helping the environment – and your customers. </TD></TR><TR><TD class=subheader>

Good grief! Just how old do you think that is? There hasn't been a 153-H spec in quite awhile. It also shows an API rating of SJ. The new oils are a 930A spec which supercedes the 153-H and the API rating is now SM. If you want to follow the manufacturers recommendations, the 930 oils are turning in the lowest wear metals across the board and providing long engine life. For the non-believers that think you have to run a heavy oil in the heat, remember your high school physics class? A thinner fluid will absorb and release heat faster which is exactly why the 930 oils will beat a heavier oil anyday in high heat. Gone are the days of heavier is better. Current technology states that the stronger film strengths are far better. That's another reason the 5w-20 oils are turning in lower wear metals. Don't believe it? It's your money and your engine- chose wisely, grasshopper.
