i know there are severl threads on this issue, but i run 15w40 valvoline Synthetic in my 02 f250 7.3L 140K - is it recomended to run a 5w40 in the winter or stay with what i have year round?
Since you're in Texas, you can get away with 15w40 year round.
Are you just running the plain Valvoline Synthetic, or are you using the Valvoline Blue? The regular synthetic is not diesel rated, but the Blue product lineup is specifically for diesel engines.
It depends where in TX you are. I don't have *problems* per se, but I definitely notice the difference in starts, noise, and smoothness with the 5W-40 syn. I would agree that if you're in south TX, the 15W-40 should be good all year, but in the Panhandle, North Texas, or West Texas, it gets cold enough to warrant syn, IMHO.
FWIW, I run Syn all year (Rotella), but I think I'm about to give Schaeffer's a go. I'm going to order some ATF, so I figured I try the 9000 while I was at it...

I dont pull as much as i used to, so do yall think i should stay with 15w-40 or try the 5w-40 syn?
I Run rotella 5w-40 Synthetic Year round here in pa. I like the added protection it gives. I change the oil every 10,000 miles faithfully. I been running it since 15,000 miles.
