Also, last, but not least, I can back up all this info i have been giving in picture form. We have tons of pictures of the truck running 37s on the street, in the rocks, in the mud buried, as we were builing the truck, as it sits today, etc... And im sure we could even muster up some video some how to show it in action, thus proving that fact that it does get "wheeled."
Im not just some punk pulling stories out his a$$, and i will prove it to anyone who doubts me.
dont waste the time lifting or larger tires if its a street queen...whats the point in running large offroad tires on the street
-my opinion-
Ford didnt make the 73-79 crew longbeds in 4wd. So i wanted to do a 4wd conversion. And whats the point of doin all tha work to make it 4wd then just leave it lookin stock? Besides do you know what a PITA it would be to wheel a 23ft long rig?
Exactly as ive said, its corvettes ultimate decision in the end. No one is telling him to run an obscene amount of body lift, but a 3 inch would be ok, i dont care what anyone says, if you use the proper hardware (grade 8) it aint going to cause any problems.
just because its grade 8 dont mean a damn thing. when you stress the entire truck past what its built for i dont care if its welded by the best damn welder in the world its gonna break. metal is not industructable. it can and will fatigue over a point of time. this is what we are trying to say yeah it might work for afew weeks but in the end it will break and its going to be going down the street. the 3 inch body lift aint what everyone is worried about its the 8 inch lift and 40 ich tires on an axle that isnt capiable of holding it much less stopping it. the street is much harder on something like this then a mild trail most of the time. think of it like this: your puttin down the trail at 15mph and hit a bump and slide on the loose dirt no big deal. but say your doin 70 down the highway and hit a bump the truck jumps and when you slam back down theres no give in pavement and something snaps. which one you think is gonna be worse.
sorry for the long post but there is nothing safe about this
tony
Well then based on your input on this, the stock body mounts would be unsafe... Really, think about it, anytime you modify anything there is risk, and even when you dont modify there is still risk. Im not thinking that the body lift is of the only concern either. I just am sure of my opinion that this guy will be fine doing his lift and running his tires on the street.
actually its the responsability of a parent to keep an eye on his kid but its the responsability of the driver to have control of they're vehicle at all times, wether its a stop light, a car pulling out or a kid running in front of you, its the drivers fault. complete control at all times.if his kid ran in front of me it would be my fault. thats the way i works, i'm not riding him or insulting him its areal concern, it sounds as if he wants big tire period, so its cool, never did he mention upgrading brakes, if he had i wouldn't have brought it up, i know alot of meatheads that have to have the big cool tires, and never upgade anyhing, they're running 20 yr old ball joints, old ujoints, wheel bearings and brakes, so don't take my words as insults or teasing or being mean. it all depends on how old he is and how responsable he is, as far as we know he's 18 yrs old in hs, think about how responsable you were at 18, if you had a choice between shiny new wheels and tires or brakes which one would you have picked? what state in corvette from? is it even legal in his state to run that kind of lift and tire? just things to think about
Yes it isd the responsibility to be in control of your vehicle, but sometimes the situation that you can get into isnt going to end in a good way. I do understand the point of concern, but you came off a little harsh about how you put it, in some caes a dog, kid, cat, car, etc. will come out in front of you so fast with such little distance that there is just planely no avoiding the accident, no matter what the car or driver... That is all i was saying, and in a case like that, the driver would not be at fault. Sorry, i should have been a little more clear in my post before.
Can I get one of those? My D44 couldnt handle 38s but I actually wheel.
Well then you must be a basher... How long did it last? As all things will break eventually. I am just sure i could get a set up like that to last plenty long enough to do the job for me and to get my moneys worth out of it.

HAHA, very good points there. If i was making a 4x4 conversion i would definately lift it at least a couple - few inches...
to many looooooooooooooooooooooong posts....i just cant make it through them all....
This is getting a little tiresome isnt it? I just cant wait to get the truck together and go get it muddy to forget about this nonsense... How about you? well, i guess you still got some pretty good work ahead of you with your truck build... Take the bronco.

you just supported my statement. its not a question will it work its how long and weather or not this guy is going to realize something is breaking and fix it. or is it going to break while hes driving down the road.
this is the last post im making this is like fighting a cripple kid theres no way i can win.
I agree with that. I have more than one set of tires. 36" is okay on the road but 32" is more stable and better cost/mile and a much quieter ride.
Well i dont really care about the quietness of the ride cause when you have 5 inch stacks comming through your bed you really cant hear anything else....
