Oversized Wheel Studs

I was driving down the road the other day and when I went to turn a corner I felt my truck shaking and got out and looked and my tire was wabling. And I got to looking at it and I broke 5 of the 8 studs. So I replaced all 8 and then bout a week later I broke 3 more on the same wheel (rear passenger). So I got some more studs to replace them with. And in two of the stud holes it got wallerd out cause the stud goes in to easy and just spins and wont tighten. So I went to all the parts houses around here to get an oversized stud and cant noone get me one, not even the Ford House. So I was wondering if anyone else has had to do this and what they did to fix it.

Thx,

if youve got 9/16 studs i don't think you can get bigger wthout new rims. more info tire size etc. maybe you just need new drums so the studs are tight also be careful not to over torque and stretch the studs

Sounds like a case of too much torque!!!! I just replaced a couple on a cummins not too long ago. Man those studs are expensive. Hope you get this one figured out without too many problems.

I had my wheels fall off from the wrong wheels. The dealer put the old lug centered wheels on my truck when hub centered were supposed to be used.

Wheel studs break for three reasons. Either under or over tightening them. Under more so than over. And using the wrong wheels as Joe said. 95% of the time studs break from the lug nuts being loose. That would also damage the seat of the hub where the stud presses in.

I gues I'm "lucky" because it didn't do a thing to my hub. Two damaged wheels (DRW) and a bent drum that was turned true was the extent of the truck damage.

Thats what im talking about the seat is to loose for a regular stud i need to find a stud the same length and thread pattern and just a bigger end to fit into the seat. I put the stud in and it just slides right into the seat and spins around. When they broke it wollored out the hole.

I have 265/75R16 on my truck. With alluminum rims so the lug nuts shouldn't of backed off the stud right? Dont alluminum tighten down as you drive?

No aluminum wheel don't tighten down the lugs as you drive. If they aren't torqued properly to start with they will get more loose as you drive.

As for the oversized lugs I know what you mean and what you are looking for. I have seen and used them before (though not on our trucks). Let me call the parts store I deal with today and see if they can hunt something down.
