Rear Wheel Stud Replacement

2003, F250, 7.3 Diesel single rear axle. Just broke a wheel stud on the left rear. I pulled the tire and have removed the rotor. This has allowed me to get the old wheel stud out. Wheel Stud Size 14 x 1.5 (Ford Item Only) $9.00

Heres the problem how the heck does the new one insert? No room with the emergency brake in the way? Suggestions please......

You will have to move the axle or the brake. It's a rare thing so they didn't make provisions for it.

Axle removed, exposing the axle nuts on a spindle. If the axle nuts are removed will this slide the hub off? And to reinstall the hub, how tight do the axle nuts go on?

To get the hub off, you have to remove the caliper and caliper bracket. Then removing the axle nut allows the hub to come off.

It takes a special driver socket.

To replace, you torque it to 60 ft/lbs, then back off seven clicks.

Not sure about 2003's, but my 2000's left side axle nut was left-hand-threaded

Guzzle has a pictorial on this one: http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/embrake.php

Ok Thanks, Almost done. Napa had the socket $20 bucks. Nut came off, then outer bearing. The actual hub took alittle work but came off without tools. hammered on new wheel stud and put everything back.

How do you close the caliber? Brake was pressed and pushed it open, not allowing it to fit on the rotor. I need to close the caliper? Suggestions???

A brake pad and a C-clamp should move the caliper pucks back into position to allow re-installation.

A lesson learned?
