460 cam?

I am converting my 78 ford bronco 4x4 with c6 and 351m in to a 460. I think I am going to stay close to stock except for cam and maybe Ford aluminum heads. I want low end and some mid range. But I dont want to go crazy with building it up. I want it to last and get decent mileage. I found a comp cam for an RV. Here are the specs:
Comp Cams
Hydrolic Flat Tappet Camshaft
RPM: 800-4200
part # 34-228-4
grind# 252BH
Duration-...Advertised..@.050"...Valve Lift
intake:.............252........206......0.467
Exhuast:.........262........212......0.484

Lobe seperation angle: 110

What do you guys think of this cam?
I will be using LandL conversion kit.
Also, I have a stock drivetrain with rebuilt c6 and rebuilt 9" rearend with 3.56's. Will this drivetrain hold up to the power of the 460?

Thanks
Andrew

460 cam?

I'd say the cam is too mild especially if you go to aluminum heads. You can easily run 260 degree @.050 on the intake side with stock heads. Yes your tranny and 9" rear can keep up with the power increase...I ran a 429 SCJ with nitrous in a 69 Bronco and didn't break anything (C-6, 9" with 4:56's)

460 cam?

I am new to rebuilding engines. What will a 260 degree cam give me compared to the RV cam from above? (more low end or more upper end?)

i dont know that i would use the ford aluminum heads if i were you in a street truck. the ports are too big and they would kill low end torque. and youd have to get a big enough cam to get the cylinders filled up that you might begin to lose idle quality and more low end torque would be gone too. look into a decent set of iron heads or get the ones you have rebuilt. as for the cam, for motorsport makes one that has 216/220 at .050 lift. i think that would be a good cam for good low and midrange power for a stock type engine. hope this helps and good luck. oh and the 9 inch and the c6 should be good for the power.

It will give you more "low to mid-range". It should be Comp Cams next step up from the one you listed. The "power range" would be 1,200-4,500 RPM. Comp Cams lists it as a 260H and recommends it for "vans, pickups, tow vehicles, and family cars"...anything larger than that will require performance intake, headers, etc.
