Steering

I need some help here. After the new springs and all new linkage up front im getting a shaky steering wheel when I hit bumps. I had it aligned today and it didnt do it before all the work. At least not as much. Is this something a steering stabilizer is used for?

Im still have the shaky steering wheel problem. The stabilizer didnt stop it. Something is wrong. All the tie rods, linkage, and ball joints are new. Is there a torque spec for the castle nuts on the tie rods? Also, could a bad box cause this? Its still under warranty, I might replace and see. Its odd that it didnt do this at all before I replaced all the the linkage and got it aligned.
Any ideas guys?

Steve

you need a drop pitman arm. You are feeling bumpsteer. Your track bar and drag link need to be at the same angle across the truck.

I have a drop pitman arm installed already. But it does feel sort of like what bump steer feels like, only more intense.

Check the angles of you track bar compared to your drag link. If they aren't nearly the same you either need to drop/raise the trackbar (may also need to build an adjustable trackbar) or you need a longer drop pitman arm.

I checked the angles today and they are pretty close if not exactly in line with each other. Next im guessing wheel bearings. Would that cause this?

Check the trac-bar bushings and recheck the bolts.

Track bar bushings are new. Im pretty sure the bolts are tight, but ill double check. Could a loose track bar really cause this horrible bump steer like conditions?

Is there ant slack in steering wheel side to side? If so try tightening the adjuster screw on steering box.

Well I got my problem fixed today! What a relief. Turned out to be my drivers side wheel bearings. Both the inner and outer were toast. I blame myself for this one. When I did the ball joints I over tightened the axle nuts. I just cranked them on there. Reading through my manual today I found that the first nut is only supposed to be torqued to 50lbs and then backed off 90'. I had it torqued to 150lbs! Live and learn right?

wow I guess that would do it. Surprised it causes the issue you had though. Go one to file away though!
