I was tracing the wires from the FIPL and found a connection along the way. What is this for? Do I need this or can I run the wires straight from the FIPL to the PCM?

you can run the wires straight to the pcm , connectors are placed in the system for assembly plant purposes

Ok, I got a wild hair and gave the idle a good look. It seems to have been idling closer to 750-800rpm. I turned it down to around 650. I then reset the FIPL. The torque converter hasnt acted up since. I have driven it over 350 without a blip. The only issue now is that I still have hard shifts. The tranny also seems uncertain how to shift properly at anything above a slow acceleration (I drive slow almost everywhere). But when I do have to get on it, it shifts weird. During slow accelerations it holds onto the gears to long before shifting. But I havent had the tranny operate properly sinceI've owned it so maybe thats how they are.

The truck has 160,000 miles on it now. Does anyone think it might need to be rebuilt? I was thinking about taking it to Ford and having them do it. I will be making a long haul this fall, so I want it to be ready for the trip.....

No, I have a thread on that right now. Pete is doing some research on it for me. And I replaced the VSS and it is still doing the same thing....
