EEC-IV is always 12 volts

I went to pull the codes of from EEC-IV port and when the volt meter is connected to the test port it always 12 volts. I jumped the wire to read the codes and there was not change. Is this and indication the TCM/PCM is fried?

I have no signs of life from the TCM. No tach or OD light. I have cleaned the solenoid pack, TCM, and MLPS connections and checked for frayed wires. All looks good and there is power at the TPS and solenoid connectors. The tach sensor is new.

The transmission shifts manually into 2 and third with no LU or OD. See my related post. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...king-help.html

It just died over night. I came back to life briefly during a test drive after I cleaned the solenoid connection. The next day it was dead again.

I hate to throw parts at it. Is there way to test the TCM/PCM? Before I drop $150 on the control module?

I unplugged the TCM/PCM and the test port was dead so there is not a short to ground.

inside the cab, down under the e-brake.pull this plastic cover/kick panel to reveal the TECA ground.insure that's ok.you can't miss it.i believe it it's green.i could be mistaken though and the ground for that is up by the hood hinge.but nonetheless just check 'em both.

The ground under the kick panel looks good. The truck is from a warm dry climate If found my first rust spot in the door seal but hardly any dirt. this looks like a highway truck despite being 4x4.

I also checked the TCM/PCM conneconntion for power. One of the corner connections was always on and several of the other had 12 volts with the key on. It appears normal with no signs of corrosion.

How does the TCM/PCM come out? I assumed it would come through the cab but you can not even see it under the dash.

you have to change it out from the firewall side.in order to make enough room, you have to remove some screws from the inner fender so you can tip it down enough for it to clear and come out.it's not too bad.

The new TCM/PCM is installed and all is well. Still shifts hard when cold. I improves when warm. I am going to Try and adjust the TPS to get 4.5 volts at WOT. I am getting 4.1. I think the PO put a shift kit in. I do not mind a solid shift just not brutal.

Now on the the manual hubs, the cold start sensor, fuel return lines, fuel filter, ect.

Thank you for getting me back on the road.
