I have an 05 CC DRW DM that I tow a 28ft race car trailer with a 48 inch Supertruss/Superhitch while carrying a 12ft truck camper. I am getting about 10mpg with summer fuel on the highway loaded as described. I have bought a new 48ft GN race car trailer that has a 18K GVW that I have yet to take delivery on so the pattern will be changing a bit this season. I also take the truck out over the dunes and onto the beach with the truck camper on. I am looking seriously at the F450 with the "High capicity tow package" with the 4:88's so I can have the "big" rearend and the subsequent larger tow capacity and I will continue to run the beach. This is about all the truck gets used for so milage is not the 1st priority but reliability and suitability for the job at hand are. I am nervous about the problems that have been incurred with the Job#1 owners. The truck I am looking at is a job#2. My last F350 had 72 updates to the transmission so I hope they have got it right by now! Really though, any input on this babble will be most appreciated.
Thanks,Jeff

Jeff,
Don't think that the 4:88 on the F450 is available for Job 3.
You might still get a Job 2 with it.
Both the 4:30 and 4:88 reaer ends on the F450 are the big square type. The gear ratio might be the only difference.
according to Job3 the F450 with 4:30's can now haul up to 24K lbs. Which works for me cause my Job 1 truck now is able to haul an additional 4Klbs. Just by waiting for Job 3 to come out.
I hauled a 40' Teton weighing in around 20Klbs from California to Alaska last year with no issue's. I got about 7 -9 mpg depending on if I was hills pulling ahill or flat landing. This was before the motor was broke in. I would expect a little better the next time I take the trailer out.
The F450 with the 4:30's should be able to handle your 48ft GN race trailer with a GVW of 18K with no problems.
Good luck and have fun on the dunes
Jeff, I have a Job 1 6.4 F450 with 4.88's; my only repair issue has been the radiator. The truck pulls great, but will probably average 1 - 2 mpg less than your DM when towing (due to the Tier 3 emmissions).
I would not hesitate to recommend it as a tow vehicle.
