How does it compare??

How do you guys think the 6.4 compares to the other makes? My girlfriends dad drives a 08 f-450 dump at work with the 6.4. He is a chevy guys that always busts my chops about bein a ford guy. He actually likes the truck and says it runs great. The only thing he hates is that it gets about 7mpg. WTF is up with that?? I read on the site about this problem. That is rediculous! Will the next years model have this issue resolved??

Its a 450 and if it has 4.88 gears then damn it will get crappy mpg, although it should be more like 9-10mpg. No offense but this could have something to do with driving habits. As far as how the 6.4 stands up to the other makes I always tell my not brand loyal friends this: get the Dmax if you want speed, but if you want a sturdier truck that can probably pull with an Sct then get the ford. As far as the 6.4 having problems it was mostly the job 1's, but thats to be expected. If you buy a job 1 you're asking for it, (no offense to anyone with a job 1).

Spend 50K on a truck you should be able to buy a job 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and not have the problems Job 1's are having! Mine goes back again for Air condtioning compressor, seat belt keeps locking up, and DPF. add that to the list of problems. Radiator, Limited slip, keyless entry, tubo boot, door align, fog lamp, left hub, transfer case plug, ait filter plugged, fuel milage, flash the computer, trail brake switch. did I forget any!

Tom I will agree with you on that it shouldnt matter what job you get but it does, its like that with every brand and model. Manufactures cant do every kind of driving habit test on there trucks because everyone drives different. but they do the best that they can.

I too will be keeping a close eye on this thread. My lease will be up on my 2007 F-350 at the end of June 2008. I have had some recent issues with my 07 but overall it has been a great truck and gets upto 24mpg with the SCT tuner. I have not yet decided on which route I will go. I have owned them all in the past (Ford, Dodge & GM) but I am seriously looking at the GM 3500 SRW. I was thinking on keeping mine but because of the CDN dollar and the price reduction on new my used truck is now also 12-15K less than what the residual is. I'd rather return it to Ford than overpay by that much.

Kusto I would keep the truck you have. It gets double the gas mileage and looks way better than any of the new models. Personaly I think the 04-07 Psd are the best looking ones.

As I mentioned I am not real brand loyal. IMHO, they are all crap, they all break down and the all cost way too much money. Some times I wonder if you are really paying for is a reserved spot in the shop so you can drive some cheepo gasser that they got laying around for a loaner. I just had a revelation. Anyone else notice that all the dealerships are building super huge service areas????? Is this to handle the anticipated increase in volume?????

With the new vehicle pricing, my current truck is over priced by $12-15K and even though I get great fuel economy and I have had the majority of the issues fixed on the truck, I can't wrap my head around paying that much extra for something. I know that I will likely kick myself in the groin repeatedly after I get into something new but sore nuts are a heck of a lot better than an empty wallet?

Job 1 6300 miles in 4 months. Heavy use. No problems. Truck is perfect. It seems the squeaky wheel makes the most posts. I bet there are a heck of a lot more with trouble free Job 1 trucks than this board seems to represent. If you just signed on as new user you would probably run not walk away form Ford. I for one am extremely satisfied with mine and I am sure the Dodge and Chevy trucks I pass on mountain roads wish they had the Ford. Job 1 0r later.

I agree. If a new user wants to see and hear bad, check out all Tom Hoffman posts. If he wants to hear music and happiness, check your posts or mine. While I would like to get better fuel mileage, I really cannot complain as I am averaging about 10.5 mpg to date with 2000 miles. My truck weighs 10,500 as I run in PA. I am starting to think that our trucks run better and achieve better fuel mileage with some weight in the bed. I added 4 - 80 # bags of sakrete for the snow on Laurel Mountain. Coming up Laurel Mounatin on US route 30 I seem to be running at 30 (aka 300#) boost. This might help my regen.

I have had no issues at all with mine. Job1 F-450 CC 4x4 4:88, 14,000 mi half of them towing 38' fifth wheel. 8-9 mpg towing 10-12 around the farm. I bought this truck for its pulling and braking ability not fuel mileage.
The grass is allways greener on the other side...............

Just sayin.
