So a guy I work with has a 6.4 now I don't know much about them as I have a 6.0 but I'm gonna ask you guys for him as you've always helped me with my issues. He found metal shavings in his oil. He said there was a good sized one he found. Now he has no loss of power or anything. Is there anything common to look for? Where should he start? He is gonna send out a sample to be tested. Thanks for any replys!

some possible sources
lifters - these are high wear items on engines that have oil contaminated with fuel issues (oil level rises often). the fuel could be from the DPF rengen process, leaks in fuel lines under vavle covers, etc. A worn lifter is pretty serious because possible CAM damage could follow.
rocker arms - these are high wear on a 6.4 . seems like they go at around 75K miles if any amount of idle time occurs. The rocker arms have a tip that wears, and when that happens, metal to metal wear occurs.
dry starts after an oil change - a lot of quick service centers do not prime the oil filter, dry starts while the oil filter fills up can lead to excellerated wear.
different story if the shavings where in the fuel filter...HPFP problems if they are found there.
