I'm saying "that the weight of your vehicle" is known to FORD & remains the same. Just as FORD's published Maximum Loaded Trailer Ratings for it remain the same. IMO "the weight of your vehicle" & the weight of your load are what is "different". Surfdaddy supplied that critical variable, the weight of his trailer, from a trip to the scales.

I'm saying FORD clearly spelled out no that "junk" was involved in their 'w/150 lb driver' recommendations.
I'm saying that any "junk" is load that must be accounted for.
I'm saying that once you learn the weight of your vehicle & FORD's ratings for it, you can have basis for a target figure to determine if your intended load is in excess of FORD's recommendation.
I'm saying "I do agree & recommend driving your FORD onto a scale at least once." & certainly advise anyone to consider using the scales whenever there's a concern over excess load. This is especially true for heavy loads you expect to haul a lot. Some could get a surprise if they finally weigh the boat they've been towing for years.
The "arguing" seems to be between "trailerists" who think FORD is overly "optimistic" & recommend as little as "50%" of published ratings AND "macho braggarts" who throw all caution to the wind, ignoring manufacturer's warnings & haul ungodly loads.
I myself am inbetween, referring consistantly to FORD's published numbers.
If you're interested in "arguing" let's get back to the liability questions. I'll be talking w/my insurance agent shortly. The question remains unanswered: Could insurance deny claims if you exceeded manufacturer's ratings & had a Loss of Control accident?
