2008 E-350 Towing

I am looking at switching over to vans for my business on some uses, so I am here looking at the towing rates for them. The one in the header is the 6.4 diesel, but do they have different stats than the F-250's or can they tow the same weights?

I will keep the trucks for the 5th wheel trailers, but for bumper pulls on all the landscape trailers that weight in at roughly 5300 -7500 lbs, will the vans match up to this weight?

Thank You for the input.

Sorry, saw the year and thought 6.4. It is a 6.0.

5 to 8,000lbs is good for a van with a V10.
Some of the V8 guys will surely chime in here.

But my V10 E350 is rated for almost 10,000 depending on rear gears.

I have a 24' enclosed race car trailer and with 3,000lb race car in it: it totals 6,500 before adding tools/supplies/spare everything... My van pulls it very well.

Diesel vans aren't terribly common but there's a couple of those guys here. You may want to retitle your thread to include the designation for diesel.

I have an E350 2003 with 7.3 powerstroke, my trailer is 3000lbs empty, using it as a car trailer is easy for the van. no issues other than traction in winter conditions when trailer is empty. recently pulled 10,000 lbs behind the van including trailer and have done it several times. no issues, other than the van not being in a "passing" mood . LOL

some people don't like the xtended van for towing , I like it because it allows me to manuevre the front of the trailer easier and get it into tighter locations. for your needs it might be good or bad.

my semifloat rear is still hanging in there , I run 235/85/16s and it has 3.55 open diff. still has lots of power. goes like stink on the highway when its empty!

The listed GCWR of a 93 E250 with a 5.8l and 3.73 is 13,000lbs, the listed towing capacity is 7600lbs.

The E350 of the same year with a diesel has GCWR of 16000, or 20,000 depending on the gears, and a trailer range of 9000-10000lbs

I see no reason why a 2008 E350 with a Diesel would have any issue at all towing what you are wanting to.

Grab your manual here and look it up
http://www.fleet.ford.com/partsandse...owner-manuals/

BTW i looked it up and they list all of the 6.8. V10's as having a 10000lb trailer rating regardless of the E350 configuration. They don't have the diesel supplement guide on the site which lists the diesel towing limits, but they would be similar if not greater.

I tow with Econolines all the time.Last one I had was a 2009 5.4 V8 gas.I switched the rear end with a 2008 because it was a full float 373 gears from the factory. They did away with the full float in 2009.I tow a 20' 14K gvw trailer usually carrying trucks that weigh 7k-8k with no problems.I put about 100k miles on that van
I bought a newer 2013 V10,it was a good deal with low miles but gets worse mpg's than the 5.4

Of course it's a standard wheelbase. From 1992 on Ford only made one wheelbase. There were two lengths of vans, but only one wheelbase.

I had a 2002 V10 extended E-350. I towed a 9100 pound travel trailer with it. It towed it just fine. I was about 200 pounds over the rated GCWR.

Ford Explorer 350 towing 5.4

I have a 2008 Ford E 350 extended. I have been towing a 35 foot 8600 lb trailer back and forth between Texas and Illinois for 5 years now. My Gross combined is 16,500. It's a 4 speed overdrive. I added K&N intake and Bullydog Tuner. Heavy duty shocks, helwig rear sway bar and rear airbags riding on Michilin tires. Dual sway bars and tows pretty dam good. 65 70 on the flats and 8 mpg. Have had no issues in 5 years. Do not recommend this to anyone, but this proves this van can do it and pretty safely at that..

The last year of the four speed was 2004. After that the five speed TorqShift was the only transmission available.

Just a question. When towing with these larger weights; should the OD be turned off?

Depends on speed and gearing. If the van will pull the OD gear without disengaging the converter clutch then use OD. If its hunting in/out of OD or TCC lockup then no.

I put 300+K miles on two Clubwagons mostly towing. The E350 was a 7.3 and it towed my 9K 24' enclosed car hauler just fine in OD. My gas van would tow in OD on level ground just fine but when climbing any significant grade I would disengage the OD (4 speed) as soon as it began to slow. In 3rd it would usually maintain cruise speed all the way up the hill without having to add much throttle.
