Train Horns

Hi, im looking at some trainhorns and have a couple questions about them.

How much do you actually use them?
Does it seem like you would have liked to put the money elsewhere?
Are they illegal to have on these sized trucks?
And whats the best reaction you have gotten from blasting them?

I cant quite justify spending a few hundred on something i'll only be able to use in my town once.
Thanks for help!

Hi -- I use mine every day..

It's one of the best "mods" I've done to my truck, to date. It's GREAT.

Illegal? I'm sure, but I haven't been bothered in 7+ months of ownership.

Best reaction?? A pedestrian walking down the road dropped the shopping bags he was holding, hit the ground, and looked up at the sky like there was an air raid about to strike. You had to be there...

Plus, I have mine hooked into my keyfob, so I can blast them up to 1500 feet away , which is even better.. I'm constantly standing 30' from my truck blasting people walking near me..

Yeah I love mine too.
Great mod.... use them nearly daily.

I like hitting them in the parking garage at work send all the car alarms into panic mode. :-)

I have been toying with the idea myself... how much does a setup like that run JB? Does anyone have a bad-*** chain hanging from the headliner to turn them on? lol

Here's a couple of pics of my set-up:

I mounted the horns under the tool box in the bed.
However, I will likely relocate them when time permits.

Before I tidied up all the wires:

I went with www.HornBlasters.com for the set-up.
It's a modified "Conductor's Special" ( http://www.hornblasters.com/products...?item=HB4H5G40 ).
I up-sized the compressor, tank and valve to make it a 200psi system.
I do not remember the cost, but the prices are listed oin their site.

Rediculous.
Especially under overpasses.

.... and if the back window is open..... it's overly obnoxious in the cab as well.

i see people mount them on the frame rails, where the spare tire is and sometimes behind the grille.

I mounted a set of grover air horns on the passenger side frame rail with the tank and compressor. I would like to add another 2.5 gal tank and another horn on the driver side.
That will most likely require a second compressor. I would recommend getting a higher psi pressure switch. It will really wake up the horns.
